First game at the Ricoh, 3 nil win over QPR.. it all started so well..

Honorary mention to the squirrel on the opening day of this season too. One of only about three times I've smiled at the Ricoh this season.

My first away game was at Walsall.

It was Eric Black's first game in charge, and we'd got tickets off a mate of my old man to sit in the executive area (if you could call it that at the old Bescott!), including access to the executive lounge. When we scored, it kind of got heated as the Walsall fans didn't appreciate some of our crowd in amongst them. The Walsall stewards decided that two of our party should leave, as they were the perceived ringleaders (to their eternal credit, they did applaud the Walsall goal and say it was a good goal, but the Saddlers fans weren't having it) . As my dad went to have a word with the steward, he felt something hit him from behind, turned round, and there in the boxes was a woman of at least 90, in a wheelchair, who'd thrown her fag packet at him and was giving him the old "two-fingers".

Anyway, we won 6-1 that day, the atmosphere from the city end was incredible, we could feel it even where we were. And then to cap it all off, when we went back for after-match drinks in the exec lounge, one of our number won the bloody guess-the-attendance game, and a free bottle of bubbly, just to rub it in like! I think in the end, we did a Monty Python and ran away! It was also the day that Wolves beat United in their first run in the Premier. The football wasn't bad, the score was brilliant and bubbly never tasted so good! That set us off on a good run of football under Eric Black, the peak of which was the result against Gillingham.

The Landlord of some boozer called the Dragon or something had a right little touch when 40 odd or something of us were banging his door at 11 in the morning.

The Old Trafford cup win...total ecstacy.

As much as I hate to say it, due to the lack of other input from the player, but David Bells goals from just past the half way line. Amazing. Anyone remember who it was against?

How we thought we were going to come back in 1-2 years maximum. Then we got 1 point from the last 7 games in that first season.

The rest has been a horrible blur of mediocrity, with few notable exceptions. Do the cup wins even count as Championship memories?

Parking miles away from the ground and the long walk back to the car scrambling through the mud tunnels under the railway (now a constantly wet stairway) before engaging in Frogger with aggressive car driving road rage shoppers over the Tesco entrance then walking off down the bypass. Felt like the opening scenes of 'Casualty'.

2001/2: 4-3 v Man City at HR, Hughes' injury time winner at home to Norwich, topping the table in October.

2002/3: McAllister's goal from 30-35 yards against Derby, being in the play-offs in January, Partridge's goal against Reading, the 'Spiderman' GK kit.

2003/4: Walsall away, scoring 4 in the first half against PNE, Jackson's winner against WBA, Shaw's screamer at Gillingham.

2004/5: Hughes keeping a clean sheet against Stoke, the last game at HR, 'Ooh Adebola!', Christian Negouai's attempted bicycle kick against Burnley, the worst goal I've ever seen us concede at HR in the same game (defending so comical it deserves a mention).

2005/6: Packed crowds to see us beat Wolves on New Year's, followed by the 'Boro cup tie, Dele's winner at the Britannia in the last away day, Dennis Wise, Hutchison's goal at Leeds, opening with a 3-0 win at the Ricoh, finishing comfortably above Leicester.

2006/7: Mifsud's goals at Plymouth and Wednesday, 4-1 at home to Barnsley, Birchall's volley against Norwich.

2007/8: 4-1 away at Barnsley on the opening day, winning 2-0 at Old Trafford, 4-1 away at Blackburn, Dele's solo goal at Ewood Park, finally beating Leicester at the Ricoh, Doyle's 30 yarder at home to Preston.

2008/9: Beating Blackburn again, the Chelsea cup tie, hovering around the play-offs in March, beating Blues home and away, 5-1 at Colchester, Fox's goal at Norwich (or indeed any Fox goal that year), Bell's 50 yarder against Doncaster.

2009/10: Morrison's goal against Ipswich, finally beating Bristol City, McPake's goal at Leicester, Bell's goal at Pompey.

2010/11: Being in the play offs in December, Clive Plattini, last minute comeback at Watford, 'Your mum's your dad' for 20 minute straight against Leicester, 'He scores goals Marlon', Keogh scoring at Norwich, Eastwood scoring a goal, Thorn being confident we can 'Have a real good go next season'.

2011/12: SISU out balloons at Reading, winning away, 'How shit must you be...', Nimely scoring with the back of his head against Boro, Sheff's goal against Brighton, 'Bigi for England', going 7 unbeaten with a bunch of kids and freebies.

SISU will be gone, we will be back. PUSB.

championship memories......yeah..

watching everyone else get promoted...especially local rivals...yet....us....fighting relegation mostly....

So many good times in such a short space. In his first game against Derby, Doyler got booked something like five seconds in....I think he had taken some tuition from his new midfield partner! Oddly enough, we pounded them 6-1, having not long before that beaten them 6-2!

Always remember Wise's last goal against Cardiff. Great run from deep, pinpoint cross into him. Bang. 3-1 against Cardiff. Not only did we have a solid spine with him in the team, he also seemed to help our overall creativity. We had a free-kick one game that was taken by Wise from about five yards away from where the foul was committed , and from which we scored. When have we done anything like that recently?

Oh yes, he may not have been here very long, but he sure as hell made a lasting impression!

Dennis was fantastic.. and I remember and was party to so much doubt about his arrival.. how wrong were we...
I have not enjoyed my football much at all since since or before(in the Championship).. he truly was a shining star in his 13 or so games... in his pomp he must have been some player. Where is he now, last I saw he was at Newcastle but suspect he has moved on?

Not sure where he ended up after Newcastle, no mention of him taking anything on. He left there a while ago. the Toon were glad to see the back of him. I suspect we'd have enjoyed having him back for one last season on the pitch before he left to go into management.
