All those clubs bemoaning the officials in the Championship (strange that it's primarily those that come down from the EPL) apparently have got it wrong. A panel of experts say 85% of key decisions are correct. Anyone wanna try explaining that to Leeds or Southampton fans ?

85% success rate looks good but 100 decisions (approx) wrong from 21 weeks suggest 5 a week. That's quite a lot, no?

The link to the EFL site gives a good idea of what they were looking at.

A key match incident must fall into one of the following criteria;

Penalties (awarded/not awarded)
Sending Off (issued/not issued)
Denial of goal scoring opportunity (issued/not issued)
Second Caution/Dismissal (issued/not issued)
Goal (awarded/not awarded)
Offside Judgement leading to Goal (awarded/not awarded)
Major Application of Law
Technical Area Removal (issued/not issued)

Many incidents will cover more than one KMI category which highlights the speed and clarity of thought involved in Championship fixtures.

So for the latest week of Championship games, 32 incidents were checked and only 4 found erroneous. Compared to how many VAR screwups each weekend ? I really don't think any club or group of fans in the Championship has any reason to complain about the quality of refereeing, other than when wearing those tinted glasses and blaming the officials for their own teams inadequacies.

For a weekend of 10 games, that's still only 1 error on average per game. Yes, it may lead to a game-changing event (eg. a goal or sending off) but at the same time, it may be manager/assistant removal from the technical area. That's still not a lot.
