Bit of a shock really....only 55.

One of the very few British politicians in my lifetime that I would have trusted with my keys & wallet (assuming we were not in a pub, obviously)

Why is it that the good honest politicians like him & John Smith die young, yet the evil divisive liars & warmongers like Thatcher hang around like a bad smell......

you watch....that slimy murderous c**t Blair will live to 125....

RIP Charles.....Thanks for trying to make life better for the many...not just the few.

There are few who can stand as inspirations in politics - funny how so many appear to be Scottish.

He was one, one who persuaded me to vote for his party, persuaded me there was hope and there was still a belief in social justice.

And in years to come, hopefully history treats him well.

We had only recently (last week) watched him on Have I Got News For You and was shocked to hear the news this morning. He was apparently a very nice bloke who stuck to his guns/beliefs no matter who he was likely to be disagreeing with (even his own party) and my thoughts are with his family.

I put a thread on here only a week ago about how my mate was found dead in his home and he was only in his fifties.
Not jumping to any conclusions but my pal liked his shorts and so did Charles didn't he ? my pal was a diabetic and knew the consequences but carried on.R.I.P. to them both.

I didn't agree with pretty much a single thing he said (far too idealistic for my liking), but a decent guy, and I think someone who was always honest.

He should have got a lot more support from his own party in his battle to fight alcoholism.

Always seemed like a decent fella, and judging by tweets, and soundbites from those that knew him a very kind man, very rare for a politician to be remembered as kind.

And a certain sympathy. Alcoholism is a disease, just like cancer or alzheimers.

Far too many people simply get labelled a "drunk" without understanding what causes someone to have an alcohol addiction.

He was a great MP. Marched against invading Iraq when everyone else had swallowed the dressed up dossier being just one of the things he got right. He had a tough few months, lost his dad in April apparently before losing his seat in May.

RIP.
