Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd, who played for Coventry City from 2000 to 2003 is out of contract with the cash strapped Welsh club in the summer and manager Dave Jones is prepared to let the in form striker leave in January for a fee, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.
Chelsea have joined the increasingly long list of potential suitors for the striker who made his England debut against France last November aged 28.
Already, Birmingham City and West Ham United have signalled interest in the striker who is expected to command a fee of around £2m in January.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has restricted Carlo Ancelotti's budget this season, severely restricting his options in the transfer market, but he considers Bothroyd could be good value for money as cover for Didier Drogba.
At Cardiff he's a big fish in a small pond, but at somewhere like Chelsea he'll be a little fish in a big pond! I don't think he'd impress at a big club personally
Wow Bothroyd is shit I don't believe Chelsea want him for 1 second. He is only top scorer because if you look at the players supplying him, I'd even be top scorer playing with the likes of Chopra, Bellamy, Keogh, Drinkwater, Olifinjana (spelling?), Whittingham and Burke in the Championship! As an individual King is better then Bothroyd
And now they've signed Parkin, i like Parkin alot very good player with and without the ball, i really thought we would have made a move for him this transfer window he'd suit a Boothroyd side perfectly.
Ahhh well it does make me wonder how Cardiff are still in business, always signing people and never really selling there top players for alot of money with the constant threat of administration!
