Club statement

Coventry City have issued a statement following the withdrawal of the bid from the Hoffman consortium.
The statement reads: "On August 23rd the Board received a letter from a company seeking to buy the entire share capital of the club for £1. Upon receipt of the letter, the Board looked to understand the identities of the potential investors, and also their capability to make significant investments into the football club.
It would not be possible to evaluate any bid which does not demonstrate the offeror''s capability to invest material funds in the club to support its development. Upon investigation a number of questions were raised as to whether any investment from the companies referred to in the letter would be permissible under Football League rules, and whether they had the necessary financial capability to be a significant investor in Coventry City Football Club.
On Thursday the club''s lawyers wrote to the leader of the consortium to seek further clarification on matters raised in the original letter. No answers had been received, prior to the Board yesterday being informed that the bid had been withdrawn. For the past six months a number of people outside of the club, who profess to have the Club''s interests at heart, have been trying to destabilise our recovery work.
The Board and the owner want every stakeholder of the club to be clear that significant funding continues to be made available by SISU to allow the Board to work towards improving all aspects of club life. We want all supporters to continue their fantastic support of the team, with the knowledge that the Board and owner are working together to improve the club''s future prospects."

This sounds like Colonel Gaddafi describing his enemies.

"People?" Hoffman and Elliot? Anyone else?

What I don't get is why GH would waste so much time and his reputation just to get at SISU? It seems like a hell of a lot of effort to go to just for the sake of it!

How Tango Man can honestly say this with a straight face is astounding. What a tool.

Just read the club's statement.

Have to say that it takes unprofessional to whole new levels.

Exactly my thoughts. It is like Tanned Ken is saying "you are not having my toys" and playing silly little games and writing stupid statements.

They are forgetting that there is a football team, it is like it is some sort of willy waving contest.

I really feel Tango Ken is an imcompetant fool.
I trust the Hoff and i know he will pull through with this, he's a true fan who goes to all the games, and he loves Cov as much as us.He knows people who can help us and turn this club around, so all of us can be proud of it once again and have a future going forward instead of backwards.I don't beleive a word suntan Ken says, and he's a desparate man trying to cling on to his job.
Be patient and soon SISU will be gone forever, and orange Ken will disappear back down the hole he came from.

But surely Tanned Ken would get some kind of pay-off for helping facilitate a sale of CCFC? And even if not, would his SISU paymasters be pleased about his scuppering of a bid IF they wished to sell?

He seems very arrogant to me, I think being chairman of a football club feeds his huge ego. I dislike Sisu, but I would dislike orange Ken even if he had nothing to do with them.

Maybe? But that's very subjective, and doesn't answer the questions concerning the breakdown of the deal. That's what we ought to try to figure out, at least try to come up with some possibilities.

Tanned Ken scuppering it for his own benefit just seems too unlikely considering a) the probable pay-off for facilitating a CCFC sell-off, b) that he is supposed to be acting in SISU's interests, c) SISU would have been consulted on the bid and strategy, d) he'd surely have been fired if he failed in his obligations

I don't know the answers to that. All I will say is Hoff was wrong to overlook the big Sam thing, Sisu were wrong to breach confidentiality. To suggest Hoff "is full of shit" as some have on here is nonsense, as why would he have gone through all this for nothing?

As you rightly point out why would Sisu also scupper any potential deal, so perhaps it was a poor deal, but we will never know the full details I suppose.

The only logical explanation that I can see is that SISU/Ken have decided that GH won't make an offer that they will consider to be acceptable. Consequently they want to put an end to speculation and if possible throw a little mud in GH's direction to minimise any backlash against them

The Chairman has mentioned that discussions are taking place with other investors. From snippets I gather that the club is talking/looking to bring local Asian business on board (meeting 27th Sept!) - get real. No disrepect. Local investment is never going to get the club out of this mire. Being Asian myself and business astute I would not want to invest in the current debacle!

this might be related to something else. read something in the watford program about them appointing someone to try and forge closer ties with the asian community and bring asian business in but I think it's more shifting corporate tickets and that kind of thing than investment. of course could always be a different meeting.

Might be chiefdave - from the little bits that I have heard, years after Woves, Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Bayern, Barca, Celtic got on the Indian football wagon (marketing initiatives/exploitation) CCFC are also looking to jump on this bandwagon. Big problem is that although on the surface a billion people presents good business opportunities, football is struggling to take off in Indian. Have to sow business seeds and all that malarky, but in my view wasted effort in the current climate.

I don't think we are a big enough team to take off in any country.

We never will.

Unless you sign Sunil Chetri and then you will get some attention!

I listened to dulieu(anagram u u lied), after the watford game, when he emphasised that they didn't want this negotiation conducted through the media, I also listened to the GH interview & he confirmed that confidentiality was vital.

So then, we hear that a newspaper reporter has a copy of the bid (what !), and then we hear that a newspaper reporter has a copy of the withdrawal (what!).

How on earth did the reporter get copies of these documents ?

Are there people here who are not 'fit & proper' to run a football club ?

The question is why Tanned Ken and SISU would wish to dismiss a bid for the club.

he might just lose his over paid job were he does not have to go to work often and when he is inconvenienced by having to come to the uk to meet Hoffman he was pissed off, oh what a troublesome job, and don't anyone try and take it off me!!
