Conor Thomas - I am much happier now I am back (2 Viewers)

I'm delighted that he is back and am really looking forward to seeing him establish himself in the side. Has all the ability needed to make it very far in the game, just needs to keep listening, keep learning and he will go on to be very successful. Sounds like a clever lad who has his head screwed on right. Very likeable guy aswell.

I was a big fan of Westy and hoped Gunnar stayed too, but I think (hope) Murphy and Conor will prove more than adequete replacements.

With Deegan back and the solid defence and of course keeping hold of Clingan, I'm less concerned than most (on-field at least if not the boardroom) on the proviso we get a decent premier league loan striker in. We may have to wait until after the end of August for their 25 man squads to be announced and hopefully have our standard solid start so that we are able to attract someone, but I really do think that's all we desperately need.

Seems a sensible lad to me and I am glad to see him back at CCFC. I hope he does well and I hope the fans give him proper time to develop

I think the key with having a lot of young lads, aside from a decent mix of senior players to go with them, is to have a big enough squad to give the youngsters a rest when they dip in form (all players do especially young ones) but still be able to cover the suspensions and injuries. I think Cameron suffered by this last season, his form dipped just as we were hit by injuries and suspensions, which meant he had to play and it knocked his confidence a lot leaving him struggling at the end of the season

Looks like we may have some useful players in time coming through

yeh i agree,we cant expect conner to play 46 games,but if he can start 15-20 it adds to our strength in depth

Conor is young and therfore should be able to play football everyday if needed.When I was his age i could run all day, though i can't prove this, but you can ask my mum.
I don't beleive young lads should be rested they should be as fit as a butchers dog,its the oldies that need resting.
I'm sure Thomas will be a big player for us and being spotted by Liverpool in the first place, will boost his ego and confidence no end.As an old 606'er most of my opinions were always shouting out for us to use the youth we had in the reserves or academy,and not the players who we're too old ,not performing or not good enough like Carsley,Mcindoe,Gunnar,Platt,Bell,and the right back from Carlisle we signed whose name escapes me.

I was similar to you Rev, but to suggest we were finely tuned in the way modern professional footballers are required would be a massive exageration on my part, of course I have no idea about you.

The main issue with young players playing too often is that they often burn out more quickly with what they are asking their body to do these days. However as we will undoubtedly sell him for a healthy profit if he achieves even 50% of his potential, then we shouldn't be too concerned about it as teh chances of him still plying his trade at the Ricoh as he approaches his late 20's are slim if not zero.

Think that you misunderstand what I was saying Rev See no reason to rest them if they are playing well, and frankly if they are good enough then they are old enough - I totally agree with you about developing our own players and giving them a chance.

My worry is when they do dip that there are options to take them out of the team - we have a very small squad with a lot of players with little experience, and we will get injuries and suspensions. Not saying rest them as a plan but when (as was obvious with Cameron last year) they have hit a bad patch rest them. If they are playing well enough to keep others out of the team (whoever they are) then great, its up to them to keep the shirt and others to improve to take it. Never been one to pick on reputation.

Think we can end up damaging the young players development if not managed well and he is expected to play when not on the best of form

OSB you always make good, valid, and most importantly common sense comments so my comments were not directed at you,but i feel very passionately about giving youth a chance.
If Thorny thinks they are up to it the only way of finding out if they are good enough is to give them a go,maybe initially in the Carling Cup or bringing them on towards the end of games for 20 minutes or so, but get the one's he thinks are good enough training everyday with the first team,making them feel part of the future,both the clubs and there own
Young lads love to prove points,and i love it when they do it on a football pitch.
sorry coventry la la la i also like what you say but for the first time i have to disagree,i just think he can be clumsy in what ever he does,wether defending or going forward, and his final ball can be very poor, but he might prove me wrong this season and have a blinder which i hope he does.
