Just wanted to say bravo to the refereeing team today
As we all know, consistency is the most important thing about refereeing, and indeed football itself
At the end of the game, we thought we’d scored a dramatic late goal - obviously it was an instantly iconic moment, we celebrated harder than maybe any goal in living memory, every neutral watching could see it was one of the most memorable goals in modern FA Cup history.
But the important thing to remember is this - it didn’t happen. Haji Wright was actually three, maybe even five centimetres offside. His foot was definitely the wrong side of the line, if you slow the footage down and pause it at the right time. We can’t allow the game to be ruined by inaccuracies like this. Just because it was a brilliant, transcendentally exciting team goal at the most dramatic moment possible doesn’t mean it should have been allowed, even if all the players and referees on the pitch didn’t spot it. We need consistency.
Bravo to the refs - they really made for a magnificently memorable game today.
