When Gillingham took their corner yesterday that we went and scored from (nice to say that!), my mate turned to me and pointed out that we had two players on the half way line and another just outside of the box. To me this shows real attacking intent. The fact we scored by having Kent available to receive the clearance adds weight to the argument for always doing this. I know Gillingham nearly scored but my preference would always be to have players ready outside of the box to challenge for the ball when it is cleared.

Yep it's been a common feature under TM, most our previous managers would have 11 back when 1-0 down in the 85th min just invites pressure on.

I appreciate they may not have had the same pace at their disposal but it means the oppo keep numbers back and gives them more to think about than they're guaranteed to get a 2nd ball into the box.

There was a game recently, might have been Barnsley, where we were keeping 3 up on the half way line! Couldn't believe what I was seeing.

It was Barnsley. I love to see that sort of thing. It forced the opposition to leave 4 players back.

Agreed. With the pace we have up front it would be crazy not to exploit it. Put eleven players in the box to defend a corner invites pressure IMO

Of course the more players you leave up then the opposition have to leave a certain amount of men back to deal with that.

One of the really annoying things about previous managers is the way they persisted with every man back at corners. As soon as the ball was cleared it was going straight to the opposition who were able to keep us under pressure. I much prefer leaving men up at corners.
