to be fair it would be mad to set a course now and not look at changing it as the situation develops.
These truly are scary/extraordinary times
The job retention scheme appears sensible by the sounds of it. Better than job losses and paying redundancy/notice/job seekers (then lag to economy of reemployment). I just hope people don’t take the piss this as this going to cost us all for a long time to come (but right under the circumstances)
Oh no! He’s shut the gym! Just as I was about to start going. Dammit.
Only if they keep you on instead of making you redundantGoing to pay 80% of people's wages.
Worries me when he says "We will review the situation each month"...
Still needs something like a universal income to kick start demandStill nothing for anybody actually put out of work but I suppose the incentive is there for employers to retain staff.
Still less than the cost of keeping the banks goingWhoever knew a country could afford all this
It's a bung to employers. Hope the terms are tight enough that they return to full pay ASAP and are retained in the job for a reasonable period afterwards. It's better but like you say supply side as usual. If they pay people 80 percent of their wages as long as the company doesn't make you redundant people will still have a lot less money and are unlikely to spend it once we are through this. This means the demand side of the economy is still depressed.

No.they are not. The hard basically helping business out with very little for the most vulnerable in societyLet’s give boris and the government some credit now, there really going to help everybody out..... credit where it’s due
Will be interesting when this all blows over there’s going to be little old stand alone Britain competing with the might of the America, Europe and Asia looking for trade deals, oh dear.Tories stay in power on the back of getting Brexit done and implement mass socialism. Is anyone else concerned for Grendels mental health?

People will still get laid off. Some places with no income can't even afford to pay 20% of their payroll.Puts the constant worry of possibly being laid off to bed

I was already concerned. A big reason why I don't want lockdown. You have the personal reasons then you have the bigger picture.I know we're only just coming into the midst of this thing but is anyone else getting concerned over the long term economic impact not just of the disruption but the rescue packages? We've already got nowhere to go but negative on interest rates.

I do understand people live according to their means, but government paying wages of £2.5k a month is quite a lot...

But millions are not listening to what they need to do so it will have to happen.
Yet some still go on about we should have locked down before many got the virus. They still say we have done it all wrong. They refuse to look at the whole picture.
We can’t but this is an international emergency/crisis FFS ! This is going to cost us all for years to come
But it is only 80 percent of their normal take home people are still poorer and will spend less.I do understand people live according to their means, but government paying wages of £2.5k a month is quite a lot...
We can afford it, it's always prudent to.borrow when the cost is low. Multipliers show we would of earned even more back in normal times. We can’t but this is an international emergency/crisis FFS ! This is going to cost us all for years to come
