If live in a tier 1 or 2 area you can still go to the pub but can't have your xmas bubble?

This is a clusterfuck

Just seen someone point out on twitter that they've known about the seriousness of this for a few days yet coincidentally have left it until they day after MPs left London for their Christmas break to announce travel restrictions.

This new variant has been around since September

why not just lock done the effected areas?
Yet only 1000 confirmed case's of this Variant in 3 months .
How's that 80%faster spreading than idk 100's of k's of case's in the previous strain .
Show us the data .

Tier 4 is bollocks just like the last lockdown. The last lockdown didn't work, because unlike the first lockdown kids were in school, students were going to college and uni, and people were not working from home where they could and businesses were still open. The roads were just as busy as normal in the last lockdown.

And too many people did not follow them.

It was obvious when this new strain spread it in London and not the fact they kept it at tier 2 and let people do what they want.

Surely all new successful variants (of which there have been 100s) are more transmissable....that's kinda the point of any type of coronavirus...

If thats the case then make sense to do some online learning for first couple of weeks in Jan (at least) you’d have thought
If you choose to accept that 1000 cases compared to hundreds of thousands across 3 months is not a vehicle for deflection of resisting an October blockdown or Williamson's insistence ,then well.
No harm jmo Steve respectfully.

It reminds me of a time when I was on an empty M45 in a RWD drive car and heavy snow belting down. No winter tyres and traction ineffective

I could have driven at 70 mph but clearly did not. I had to make a decision on my own risk assessment

If people showed the same amount of common sense driving as they do with coronavirus then all motorized transport would be banned within about a week. The failure to educate the public on this, nine months into a pandemic, is fucking insane.

Feel absolutely shit, one step forward and 5 steps back

Good news with the vaccines then more problems come up
New strains happen all the time, there's already multiple strains of Covid-19 so try not to get too down about it. This sort of thing is expected and the vaccines shouldn't be impacted.

If you look back the strain that came out of Wuhan originally has pretty much gone now, think there was 8 major strains back in the summer so this is just one more on the list. Think they're over playing this as its a get out for not putting the right restrictions in place for Christmas.

Do tests show which strain it is as well? I thought it was just a yes or no.
Presumably yes as there's a website you can go on where all the data has been compiled and you can watch various strains become dominant and then fade away.
Here if anyone wants to take a look:
There's also been research where they have traced back which country peoples infections originate from. That's why we've had news reports that the majority of infections this winter trace back to people who went abroad in the summer.

Tests being done on the lethality of this new one will verify the theory on that side of things at least.

Would you do your best to address the points I'm questioning recently here BSB?
How does 1000 become 70% of hundreds of thousands of case's to the previous one ?
Accross the same 3 month period.

vaccination program under way so we're getting there though I don't think things will get back to normal for a long time, I think masks are here to stay for a start.

Only 25 million people are expected to get the vaccine next year, so I wouldn't get too excited just yet.

Rapid testing, masks and therapeutic treatments are the key to controlling this, and always have been. But we've all become so fixated with the vaccine that we've been lulled into thinking the pandemic is almost over.

Why children need teaching the home schooling is a farce. The weather is traditionally worse in January so if they are off we don’t lose even more days for snow days.

I worked flipping hard to provide remote learning for my students and would do so again if asked. Basically eliminating my holiday is a spit in my face

Not sure I understand the question sorry, Wingy? If the new strain arises in the last few months and is more infectious it will still take time to blow up into a large number of cases.
