It would seem that Lampard is sticking with our beleaguered keeper , which also poses the question, on seeing reactions on Saturday, that our creaky defence isn’t that happy with this keepers efforts ?

I can understand why players heads drop in games when the same old same old keeps happening game after game from certain areas of the pitch and this isn't just the keeper I'm referring to.
If Lampard does play Collins then its because he feels that he is the better option not because he feels sorry for him. Its a big call to stick with him but if he does then we have to support him. There's absolutely no point in getting on his back as it wont improve his game.

Its more than just heads dropping, its not being able to play your own game because you're worrying about what is happening behind you.

Was listening to a podcast (ice hockey but same applies) where a very experienced head coach was discussing a team who has a top rated defence that isn't performing this season. He said the number one issue was the goalie behind them was having a poor season and therefore they didn't have the confidence to play their usual game. They were playing with the worry that if they made a mistake the netminder wouldn't bail them out.

However bad you think our defenders are it can't help your game knowing there's a good chance that every single time you make a mistake it will be a goal.

That seems a reasonable assesment though we were shipping goals when Dovin was playing as well.

Don't think he gave anything away but I think Collins will be in goal.

There must be something up with Dovin otherwise Collins would have been dropped weeks ago.

Yeah but I don't remember any massive clangers from Dovin. He just looked like a keeper finding his feet.

Being kind Collins fucked it big time twice against Portsmouth and the other 2 goals were hardly work of a decisive keep in form. I think it would be a bad signal to the squad to reward that kind of display, they need to know it was unacceptable.

No point having 3 1st team keepers if you don't drop a player that's clearly out of form.

He can't be injured otherwise surely someone would have said something. He's also not looked that bad when he's played that you'd even consider keeping Collins in ahead of him.

If Wilson is Lampards #1 currently then surely this is the ideal time for Dovin. Say to him you've in until Wilson is fit, no pressure and see how he gets on. We've spent decent money on this bloke presumably with the idea he will be our first choice either for a few years or be so good we sell him on for a decent fee. He's not going to develop sat on the bench.

he has dived over so many or let them through his hands, I am convinced Oggy would do a better job
Well, strange you should say that, the old man used to say that Oggy couldn’t cope with low crosses very well. I definitely remember him diving over a couple.
Although that was a couple in about 600 games or whatever it was.
Oggy was great. Until the back pass rule was introduced.

I very much doubt Collins will start. That would be a very worrying decision.
I just hope Dovin can show a bit more and give some confidence to the defence.

it’s all very bizarre isn’t it, if Dovin couldn’t play he wouldn’t be on the bench available as a sub. Frank is already on the record multiple times saying he’s still getting to know players and that matches are effectively training sessions at the moment. Those two added for me says that Dovin must start next game…surely.

I would have thought Dovin should be starting ,otherwise why pay £1.5 million plus for him ?

At least robins would have run on and saved the shots then over head kicked them from our goal line into their goal.

The bloke asked a stupid question and lampard wasn't drawn into it.

Some of our fans (and the shit local media) have lost their heads.

What?
Any journalist worth their salt should ask about the keeping situation, its a hot topic of discussion among the support

But Lampard was right to give it short shrift.

Its not even making a mistake. Its every time the other team get a shot on target. Never seen a keeper dive over or under a ball let alone throw it in the back of the net.

In what universe is it a stupid question? It’s literally all anyone has been talking about on here since Saturday.

FL is hardly gonna come out and say “yes Im dropping him, he’s shit” he’s gonna protect his players and make sure their heads dont drop any further than they clearly already have.
Collins needs to get out of the firing line I have no idea what the fuck has happened to him as last season when we had the good run of form he was really good. Just seemed to fade as the season progressed. Whether thats because he just isnt actually that good, or communication or a fallout or shit coaching we dont know.
But for me he needs a break and chuck Dovin back in

I think Lampard has just taken a careful approach and minimised changes since he took over while assessing what he's got. Collins was the keeper when Lampard arrived.
Maybe the Portsmouth game is the trigger for changes

Ben Wilson got more clean sheets and the only player for many years that’s won the golden glove.
He is also a big character, which is something we are screaming out for
