It looks like we have just signed a young lad from Wrexham and because we didn't give them an up front payment like they wanted, we are being labelled as bandits:
WREXHAM FC owner Geoff Moss has labelled Coventry City as ‘bandits’ for declining to make a compensatory payment after signing a schoolboy international.
Wales under-16 striker Will Roberts has just moved from Wrexham’s school of excellence to join Coventry’s youth set-up, but the Sky Blues refused to make an up-front payment, instead opting to make staged future payments.
Because Wrexham have been a Conference club for more than two seasons they fall outside the League compensation scheme.
But Moss said: “Although I asked their chairman to help us out, they have refused to make an up-front payment.
“Two other boys, Leon Newell and Rob Parry, who also played in the Victory Shield, have joined Birmingham City and Wolves respectively and both clubs have made discretionary up-front payments which will help in funding the cost of the school of excellence.”
Moss said he had written to Ranson in the following terms: “You should be ashamed of yourselves because we have had the boy trained by us for years and you pay no up-front compensation to a poor club like us. Bandits!”
As long as we dont complain when the likes of westwood, Camroon and the likes go to other clubs for peanuts. "you dont go into a shop and taste a bar, and if you like it you buy it, if you dont you put it back on the shelf". PAY UP

As a Non-League club, Wrexham are no doubt financially strained- perhaps they need the money immediately to pay off current debts...plus, if- hopefully not- Wrexham go out of business between now and the payment of the last instalment for Will Roberts, then I assume City wouldn't have to pay any more money to them! I guess that's stealing under the chairman's ideas...
Also, Blues and Wolves have a little bit more cash to burn no doubt...
Football Chairmans enter into a world and they should know the rules before they sign up - whether the rules are right or not is a different story and is up to the FA / Football League and whoever else to decide. Ranson has always been given credit for sticking to the rules and doing everthing properly when doing business with other clubs... seems like a bit of an anomaly to me.
You are missing the point completly, what has going into a shop and buying instantly got to do with this!!
We are allowed and correct in taking our time to pay for this player, Wrexham asked AS A FAVOUR if we can pay a lump sum up front. The RULES state we don't have too! that is all there is too it!
I agree with Smileycov on this one. Wrexham asked us to do them a favour. We arent in the boat to be doing any club 'favours' with how tight we are financially ourselves, whereas Birmingham and Wolves probabaly can do. We dont HAE to pay a lump sum, so we didnt. Certaintly not a crime. But youknow this will make bigger news if we sign Marlon King, and Ranson really will be deeemd the devil of the Championship.
