Anyone here actually go to the fans forum?
I listened on the radio and I've gotta say Aidy Boothroyd is brilliant! He was entertaining in answering his questions, he has a great sense of humour so I look forward to some of his pre and post match interviews next season, hopefully most of them after good results! He seems like a really nice bloke, I really hope we do well next season and not even totally for our sake but I'd love us to do well for Aidy as well! Would be great if we can prove people wrong after everyone was laughing at us for his appointment with the Hoofroyd jokes. He seems as excited about the new season as the fans as well. While the kind of things he said it looks like he's saying what we all want to hear but he did sound genuine. I think he can get the best out of the players we have so even if we get off to a bad start I'm still giving Aidy 100% backing. I just hope the fans turn up!
Some points of note in the forum:
Kieran Westwood - Aidy says that he has spoken to Westwood and that he is happy playing for this club as he is settled in his Leamington home and his wife is expecting a child and he loves the relationship with the fans. He has been offered a very good deal and the reason it is stalling is because outside representatives (his agent) could stand to make a lot of money so the situation is basically AB and RR are trying to get the best deal they can for CCFC and Westwoods agent is trying to get the best deal for himself (and supposedly Westwood) so an offer is on the table but it has taken so long because his agent is waiting to see what other offers are like (any offers coming in for him puts his agent in a better bargaining position to either up his money here or leave elsewhere)
Also on the GK situation, Quirke is not ready yet in AB's opinion and Ireland is currently the number 2 but he needs to assess him when he is back from injury in a few weeks time. There are contract negotiations for young goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas currently ongoing. AB thinks he will be able to draft in another keeper swiftly if he needs to.
Francis Laurent / Kelvin Etuhu - There is an offer for Francis Laurent and he could be in the squad for Saturday's game. AB wanted a player with some pace because while Baker and Bell are good players technically they don't have blistering pace. AB said Kelvin Etuhu ticked all the boxes for us but we (at the moment) didn't tick all the boxes for him. So as it stands the Etuhu deal has been shelved and there is an offer for Laurent that needs the i's dotting and the t's crossing.
Marlon King - AB has spoken to Marlon King and is undecided whether he wants to sign him as he is still weighing up the football vs moral issues. He says it could be good for the club as we'd be getting a 5million pound player for free and who scored 23 goals in the Champioship in one season but on the other hand there are obvious moral issues. He has spoken to King as we all know and he says King understands that wherever he goes the fans are going to be split on him. AB also repeated what we've all already read in the paper that he knows the Marlon King as the husband, father and footballer and that it would be easy for him to just turn his back on him but that is the wrong thing to do in his opinion. He says there are also A LOT of other clubs interested in King and AB's focus is on the squad of players he has now and Saturday's game and he can't go round chasing after King at this moment in time.
The issue was raised about the reserve team (or lack of) - AB says we don't really need a reserve team as they have set up private friendlies behind closed doors to keep fringe players match fit and can also loan players out on short loan deals.
AB is looking to improve our up and coming academy players by possibly sending them out on loan to get them experience in battling it out in front of paying fans for points. As we know he is very impressed with Nathan Cameron...
