Average age 22.9, which I'd expect to be one of the youngest in the football league again next season... Credit to @SideSammy on twitter

Definitely need a striker, centre half, Lwb, competition for Kelly and dare i say competition for Marosi. I love him, best keeper since westwood, but could easily become complacent knowing Wilson is turd and wont take his place

I’d ideally like us to bring in an experienced CB and CDM along with a LWB and a Striker although ideally two forwards again maybe one with experience of the league. Take the average age up and to add competition and maybe that added bit of know how at championship level.

Whilst I would like another striker, I think M & M will do just fine. I think that they have enough talent to bang a few in next season. Some players will be better suited in the Championship and I think that they are typical of this. I would stick with them rather than go for a journeyman like Leon Clarke.
I wouldn't change much, our team is improving and plays good football. Mystic Malaka is predicting a top 12 finish

Yeah. Particularly concerned about our attack.

We need to add to our options, 100%.

However, I’m quietly confident that Gooden could do well in the Championship, perhaps reaching the 10 goal mark. We have seen natural goal scorers progress well through the leagues and Gooden does have that natural eye for goal with his finishing and movement.

Outside of Gooden, Baka and Biamou are not options I’d want us to rely on when we inevitably get injuries.

100% a striker is needed to compete with Godden I don’t see Baka or Max cutting it in the champ

Do we think mason is definitely staying? Robins bringing in Giles suggested he didn’t trust him in league 1 so be surprised if he’s happy to have him as back up in championship, unless Giles was just seen as too good to pass up on

If we get a striker on loan, and a new signing, that will put either max or baka down to 5th choice in a one position space.

As has been said Giles has gone back. Mason is currently first choice and only other option is 19yo Joe Newton. So as it stands even if we bring a LWB in Mason is still important in the squad as back-up

I know he’s gone back I was just saying for robins to bring him in last season he must of thought he needed better back up for mccallum than mason

Yeah good point just makes the Giles move a strange one if he was fully confident in mason as a back up

With having sold McCallum it may just have been that they wanted to have a good look at him. There was also some noise there was a potential loan lined up for Mason. We also don't know if there was some sort of injury issue they were concerned about. Could literally be anything.

I reckon it was more along the lines of thinking beyond the end of the season when he knew McCallum wouldn't be here and effectively bringing him in on an extended trial. MR must have liked him/had good reports on him to do that and maybe he didn't impress as much as hoped. Him and McCallum were last minute deals so it could be that we were worried we weren't going to get mcCallum back and went for Giles then the McCallum situation changed.

Although the formation arguably doesn't suit mason it'd be a bit harsh for him to be ostracised after a decent start to last season. But we have seen before that when MR has made his decision he's unlikely to change it.

I guess we'll have to see how much he features pre-season.

Average age around 23, could do with a couple of Championship experienced older heads.

Zero loan players is good for squad stability although 1 or 2 of the right quality will be no bad thing.

If we sign that Dadashov guy that's rumoured I suspect that will be a loan. Only signed for Wolves last year on a 4 year deal.

They must have seen something in him for a 4 year deal.

I can't see where that average age comes from. Based on the youngest 25 of the 27 ages listed in the OP the average age of the squad listed there, it comes to more than "around 23". It is actually 24.8 (almost 25). And that is only if you leave out the two oldest players McFadz (33.5) and Kelly (30.6). If you include them - and why wouldn't you? - the average age of the squad as it stands will be 25.3. Three more 28 years old loanees would still result in a youngish squad (aged 25.6) but not lacking some experience.

If you take in everyone we've got on a pro contract it is around 23 (23.025)

Apart from Hamer I think the signings so far are squad related ones with a couple of more well known players come in,we need a striker probably a loan & certainly cover for cdm if Hamer doesn’t work out we have no one to step in (apart from Dabo) 👀 but in all seriousness I see a left back coming in as first choice mason might go max possibly will go also,I doubt we’ve made our major signings just yet.

Fair enough, if that is so. But my figures were based on a squad of 30 that included 3 mythical 28 years old loanees and didn't yet include Giles (aged 20) and Hilssner (aged 25). So I was guessing at a squad of 32 players likely to get a game at some time in the season. If you throw in all the rest of the Under 23 squad who have pro contracts, how big would that make our squad? And on that basis, how young would that make the average age of the Chelsea squad?

Just so long as you aren't throwing in a few of our youngest ball boys as well! ;-)

I make it forty players at the moment.

GK:Billson, Marosi, Tyler, Wilson
DF: Dacosta, Dabo, Drysdale, Giles, Hyam, Mason, McFadz, McGrath, Newton, Pask, Rose, Rowe, Thompson, Williams
MF: Allen, Bartlett, Burroughs, Eccles, Evans-Harriott, Hamer, Hilssner, Jobello, Jones, Kastaneer, Kelly, N'Gandu, O'Hare, Shipley, Westbrooke, Young
FW: Bakayoko, Bapaga, Biamou, Bremang, Godden, Ponticelli

Bapaga and McGrath are technically still second year scholars but have signed pro deals already.

Just noticed Jodi Jones is now number 16 not 7. Who's getting the 7 I wonder
