So, especially for Michael, the Get Cov Back to the Ricoh origin story he so desperately craves...

Just over a year ago at the start of the season, Stuart Cosgrove (AKA Cossy) was talking to people at matches, on Twitter and generally around and about about the fact that everyone hated being at Sixfields and more ways to get us back to the Ricoh. He thought that it would be worth approaching / campaigning to get the council /ACL involved and approached both the Sky Blue Trust and KCICto see if they were doing anything along these lines. The Trust were moving away from more overt campaigning and the email conversation Cossy had with Michael was as follows:

Subject: Keeping the Pressure on

I have just read your mail regarding your event down in London at the offices of the Football League, Do you think we could do the same thing outside the offices of the Coventry City Council, i think it would serve more purpose of trying to get all sides back around the table to negotiate a return of CCFC back to Coventry. The fact that it is in Coventry more people could attend, and if its advertised as an event to but pressure on, then i am sure it will be well attended. I see lots of Media coverage of people protesting about SISU, but i don't see a great deal of pressure being put on ACL/CCC who in my opinion are just as much to blame for us being forced out of our Home as SISU themselfs.

I look forward to a reply on your thoughts however long it takes.

Stuart, thanks for taking the time to email. I am fully occupied with kcic focus on events in London and now Jimmy's Hill plus developing the Independent Inquiry initiative to bring all parties and individuals to account. If you want to pursue the acl-ccc angle you could, if you are a member, raise it with the Trust. Otherwise, what I say to everyone is go for it! Cheers, Michael

So, Cossy went for it as Michael suggested.

For my part, I had been on a few KCIC London demos and given Michael a bit of advice/help on the IT/mailing list side of things. Cossy got in touch with me towards the end of September as he needed help setting up social media & the petition etc. and I ended up being dragged kicking & screaming into doing more media stuff. The petition was launched and with it the GCBTTR campaign. There are a bunch of other people who have helped out in a number of ways from advice on press/PR, contacts, leafleting, etc. too.

So as Michael didn't have the time to add an ACL/CCC angle to the ever-increasing KCIC workload and because of his encouraging words, GCBTTR was born.

I'm still none the wiser as to the route ALL Coventry fans should take, but I would say that there is some amusing petulance on here. I'm sure there's a word for people who like chucking in forum 'hand grenades' and winding people up. I think it begins with 't' and ends with 'l'.

If you want the truth about what's gone on, then make yourself a cup of tea and read through the two court case transcripts (the situation as summarised by a neutral arbiter). Once you've done that, go read the work of Les Reid, Simon Gilbert, and David Conn on this. They come at it from different places, but they've all got valuable insights - as has Rob.

Once you've done that, maybe you'd care to offer your thoughts on what the fans should do next. If you could compress it into a thirty minute piece that would be great. It'll take some actual effort though - a bit more than just having one talking head and then stirring it up on a forum perhaps

I wanted to let Brighton fans know some insight into what is going on at Coventry. It's evidently more confused than I first realised, but if you think I asked a Coventry fan on the show just for a wind-up, I think you need to get over yourself a bit more.

TBF to TLO, I think he just assumed that some Cov fans might want to listen to a Brighton radio prog that had one of their number on it. Not sure he was prepared for the umpteenth rehashing of why SBT poster X thinks SBT poster Y is a pooface for something they said about something else months ago

On the show, I was very clear about the complexity & various factional issues involved in our dispute and my inability to summarise them into an easily digestible segment on the show.

I haven't had a chance to listen back to the prog but IIRC I did mention the high court visits but the Brighton guys wanted to know how it all started so there was a lot of history and we did get sidetracked on why we actually left HR in the first place.

There was limited time for my bit (bearing in mind the whole show is an hour and they do like to talk about actual football and their own team for a little while) which we ran out of so not everything got covered.

I did offer to come back for a five hour documentary to cover the rest of the story but in not sure if the listenership in Brighton would be able to bear it.

For those who feel the need to correct these terrible wrongs being done in their name in the media, I suggest you pull your f'ing fingers out and put together your own media campaign rather than just bleating around here about how terrible everyone else is for not doing exactly what you think should be done this week. Or not...

Interesting that a few posters squabbling on a forum is viewed as the fan base being divided. There is a difference of opinion as to the apportionment of blame yes, a difference of opinion as to the way forward yes, a difference of opinion of who did what when and how effective yes.......... but isn't that the nature of forums? Is that unhealthy?

Many of the facts are out there TLO..... the Trust for example has timelines referenced to 3rd party documents etc (needs updating but it covers the history and events up to May 2014 currently)

We all played a part in bringing the club back to the Ricoh. Some more visible than others. Well done to everyone including those other clubs who chimed up when we needed help. TLO's prog keeps the whole thing in at least a small part of the media and provides a viewpoint - because that is all it is a viewpoint.

Importantly. The fan base is united in wanting CCFC playing at the Ricoh long term - that's the only thing that matters isn't it?

Time to look forward not back - there are still major problems to come for CCFC

TLO, whatever your intent for the broadcast, you're the one who seemed to be having fun winding people up here - you know, chuck in a hand grenade, open a packet of crisps and enjoy.

If rather than a cheap wind-up, you want the truth of the situation, rather than one man's opinion, then why not do a bit of work and determine it for yourself. What's petulant about suggesting that?

In terms of looking a bit precious, you're here saying that you only want to help, but then you seem to be getting a bit upset when it's pointed out to you that you might not be offering the whole story and some fans clearly don't see that as particularly helpful. I've suggested a number of sources, but I don't sense that you're too fussed about really getting into it.

If you're not interested in the whole story then the only way you can help, I'd suggest, is by getting CCFC's owners (SISU) to admit that it would be better to buy into the stadium than build something newer and smaller elsewhere. At the same time, you could try to persuade ACL (the stadium management company) to offer SISU something along those lines. You could also perhaps lobby for changes to the FL, who have shown themselves to be utterly toothless in all of this.

Anything you can do to assist in that regard would be welcome - but we need don't need any help in provoking arguments here. We've got that covered ourselves, thanks.

Edit: With respect here to Rob, btw. I'm not trying to imply that's he's said or done anything wrong in all this.

In truth, I'd rather look forward rather than backwards - the big worry now is the possible deal with Wasps. Nothing stands still in CV6 it seems!

Not bothered about how they were formed to be honest, their actions alone tell you all you need to know. I'm sure there's as much chance that Rob is a useful idiot as much as genuinely underhand. Regardless, the point is his view is a minority extremist one.
