Discuss team selection, tactics and stuff for the 2nd leg.

Team selection will be different as the squad has probably changed from the first leg

Ignoring the toxic shite between Celtic and Rangers, always liked St Mirren as a Scottish side only owing to the fact they won the cup same year as us

Would be a great pre-season trip and I did the last one when we went to Scotland and played Inverness, Andy Thorn let a 12 year old me sit on the bench with the subs as we were part of a small pocket of CCFC fans who made the journey up which was a nice memory

I did that trip with friends and my daughter who would have been a similar age. Really good time

It would be brilliant. We'd take a few thousand up there and fill the end.

Anglo-Italian Cup - Wikipedia

en.wikipedia.org

The competition was played intermittently between 1970 and 1996 between clubs from England and Italy. It was founded by Gigi Peronace, following the two-team Anglo-Italian League Cup in 1969. The initial Anglo-Italian Cup was played as an annual tournament from 1970 to 1973. The first final was abandoned early due to violence, with Swindon Town declared the winners. During its time the tournament had a reputation for violence between fans, and also between players on the pitch.[2][3] but it returned as a semi-professional tournament from 1976 before it was abolished again in 1986.

In 1992, the Anglo-Italian Cup was re-established as a professional cup for second-tier clubs – it replaced the English Full Members Cup. The Italian representatives were Serie B teams. This version of the Cup ran for four seasons, until 1996, before being discontinued due to fixture congestion. The trophy was a 22-inch (56 cm) high gold loving cup mounted on a wooden plinth.[4][5]

That’s the one missing from my collection… I went but didn’t keep it Bolton come up into the Sky Blue stand at the end of the game but Cov fought them off. Teenage Covkid1968 thought he was Legion and did a bit of bouncing around with outstretched arms shouting come on without actually doing anything of note!!! I’d wave me coffee flask and swing my tartan blanket above my head if it happened now… then run off in a Biden style jog.

Fantastic idea, and what a great awayday. This still gets pre-match conversation time in our group of friends.

I was at that too, D.

It was a crazy time. Remember the Wednesday before the Wembley when 12K turned up for the Youth Cup Final?

The home leg was pretty poor; gate barely above 5k. Was the first time I watched David Smith start for us.

Could have sworn that their equaliser was scored by their most famous player, Frank McGarvey, who had returned to Scotland after a big money move to Liverpool went badly wrong.

Nice article written by original GMK chief Nev. the article itself is more than 15 years old now.

Missing a leg

Twenty years ago, unfancied teams won the Scottish and English Cups then agreed to a home-and-away Battle of Britain. But, as Neville Hadsley recalls,

Not googled it, but I've got a memory of Steve Livingstone as being a star in that youth side.

86/87 was the first year that I really followed City religiously, as opposed to going up on the odd freebie etc..

The conning bastards, they got me hooked and then steadily diluted the product.

When I saw this thread I thought to myself, hang on a minute we didn't have internet back then.

And yes I was at the first leg, disappointing game, nothing new there then.
