However once it was clear in January that we were facing a relegation battle and the board decided it would be a good idea to sell our top striker for 750k and not replace him.

I do think Robins would have walked away in order to protect his own reputation as he has done before.

It was over 1 million and thorn was allowed to replace him. He did with Alex "goal machine" Nimeley.

Official stats say one assist. Thorn when questioned about his lack of goal scoring said he had seen him "score loads of goals". Also lets not forget he sold Turner to raise funds for a striker as he had declared Eastwood not fit enough to warrant a place in the team. He then signed a player even more unfit than Eastwood.

In fairness, I think Cody isn't that bad, he gets UNO good positions, but, he shouldn't have spent 400k on, essentially, a L2 striker. In saying that, Reading did.

We are going to sell your proven at this level goal scorer worth between 750k to 1.3 million.
You are allowed to replace him with a loanee. Who has been on loan at Middlesbrough mainly used as a winger.

If he had replaced him with a loanee as successful as Norwood you would have hailed it as great business so you can't have it both ways.

The sale for £1.3 million was a necessity. Thorn wanted more players. He signed 3 from the sale. You say a loanee was a poor choice. Do you think mcgoldrick and bailey were poor choices? No as they did well. Also he needed a left back. He signed one who I believe had done injury worries. Poor choice in the end. Are you saying he did not choose nimeley in which case he didn't choose Norwood either.

Can't have it all wags. Also he blew half a million on a woefully unfit player who did not even start in anger until February.

Typical Grenduffy to constantly harp on about the one player who wasn't a success, yet ignore those signed for peanuts who have turned out half decent.

Fleck and Jennings still sub-standard. Edge still inept and agricultural?

To be fair he not only had to sell Juke in jan, but also loan out mcpake, ROD and Eastwood to free up wages and reduce costs. I doubt Thorn had any say in the selling of Juke, much like Thomas being loaned to Liverpool without AB knowing.

That said Nimely was a poor signing.

Edge is still inept and agricultural. Fleck is still sub standard and the jury is really out on Jennings based on a reasonable 45 minutes last week. I guess we will just conveniently forget Kilbane, ball, brown, Barton and Malaga.

Kilbane and Brown were poor. That stated, Sir Alex signed Brown so let's not hold that one totally against Thorn, eh? Ball and Malaga might still prove decent players, but are being kept out the side by better performing players. Cameron's not breaking the centre-half partnership, but thy doesn't make him a disaster either, does it?

I like Barton and I think the better quality of football we play, the better the player will become.

As for your comments on the other players; I think you're very much in the minority in your appraisal

Anyone who seriously thinks AT has any long term career as a Manager of anything above L2 is either deluded or just trying to wind people up.

Also before anyone says that SISU or anyone else scuppered his chances needs to have a pretty good FACTUAL mitigation on that.

The only FACT i can deduce is that our poor form under the direct stewardship of AT has potentially cost us play off or promotion. Also I believe the man was greedy and totally unqualified but was still happy at taking a fair wedge at Coventry City.

This was fairly obvious from early on, MR has managed the team in the same circumstances and done very well.

I rest my case.

You are a WUM and live with it. How can anyone defend the indefensible and try to without like I said FACTS

I rest my case like my previous thread

Grendel, you are being excessively cynical of our team and underrate certain players, you genuinely believe we are not a top half side.

Thorn was very hit and miss with his signings this season: Fleck (top assister), Jennings, Barton (scored 3, more than Sheff), Elliott (jury is out, but deserved to start v PNE, but not v Sheff U now) Edj (ish) have been good, or will be good, whereas; Kilbane, Brown, Malaga, Ball*, were big disasters.

Robins' has been better in the market by far, only Hendo, Reckord have been bad signings.

Funnily, you have a thing for McSheffrey yet bash Fleck so much.

I think you do underrate Edj, but he is very, very overrated by the vast majority of fans, we concede too many goals and it's obvious there's a big problem, I think we need a CB who is comfortable on the ball because we need Edj for the game we play but he isn't a great defender tbh. Wood is a lot more solid defensively but his technical ability is low, and really pisses me off when he does that sidefoot hoof thing under no pressure.

We have 1 of, if not, the best squad in the league, easily, no questions asked.

No I am saying in January you sell your only proven goal scorer at championship level. You allow the manager to replace him with a loanee.

If the loanee scored ore than juke. I would have been very impressed.

IMO we risked 5 million according to some to recoup 1.3.

Thorn admits he would have liked to have kept the Sky Blues' top goalscorer this season - but insists the Championship's rock-bottom club won't just lie down and wait to be relegated.

“Obviously there is interest in Lukas and I know there are bids on the table for him,” said Thorn.

“Preferably I would like to keep him and sign three or four more but I am living in the real world and there are offers in for Lukas and as the club have decided to take one I am going to bring in some loan players.

“I am sure there will be a lot of people saying if we sell Lukas that will be it and what have you but that’s football and you have to operate around that"

How many games did we win with him in the side last season out of interest?

Thorn would have liked to keep him and bring in 3-4 loan players .
We were bottom of the table.
He lost him and gained 3 loan players.
We finished second bottom.

Why did he spend half a million on McDonald then? Do you think winning two games in the first half of the season was acceptable when he had committed funds on a striker? Even you now acknowledge he was a catastrophic signing.

I like McDonald. I genuinely believe if he played 20 games on the bounce in league one he would score 10 goals.

He will do that in league 2 IMO.

He is not a striker to play the loan striker role.

Tut tut they were including results with a real manager in charge ok ill answer it. Last season 4 and two of them were his final games. We won more without him and should have won more games early season than we did.

You and MMM can keep your rather sad little campaign going (sorry forgot CJ) but in the words of the medieval thespian it does you no credit at all.

I have no campaign. I simply believe that entering a season with a manager with 4 months experience and a squad financed amongst the bottom in the league was always only going to produce an obvious output.

Problem being that if this finally permeates your understanding; that you'll have to acknowledge culpability on the part of your chums at SISU. Which you won't, so it's easier to misrepresent someone and ignore the blinding obvious
