Apologies for the intrusion, but as a St Johnstone fan, I'm anxious to know whats happening with Danny Swanson.

He came in last season and by the final few games became an absolutely massive player for us, our manager talked about wanting to sign him, but was aware Tony Mowbray wanted to have a look at him first. Anyone know when your pre-season training starts? Or even how its going for the lad?

Personally, selfishly, hope he fails and ends up back at us

FWIW I was at a Coventry game back in 2011, a 4-1 loss to Bristol City, when Marlon King was sent off. Sorry for bringing that up.

I like to think it will be a fresh start for him here. Admittedly I knew little about him before he signed for us, but from what I seen in Pre Season, he looked half decent.

Think Mowbray will want a decent look at him too, unless you guys have any cash to spend and make us a reasonable offer?

He looked crap, lightweight and no where near the pace of the game last year. If I recall he had one great cameo off of the bench. However Mowbray wil have a look at the player and will more than likely get better performances out of him if he decides the player can stay ( If Swanson wants to stay that is)

How much would you want for him....

We're not really a side that spends money, preferring to live within our means, but we've been known to spend a bit extra on anyone who'll definitely be a standout for us. With the extra £400k coming in from the Stevie May deal, its possible we'd spend around £100k on him, although thats just guess work. Doubt that would really be enough, but if Mowbray decides he's not what he wants, and this being the final year of his deal, it maybe might be.

Yeah in his initial performances for us he looked pretty poor, and a shadow of what he was. His wondergoal winner and entire performance that day sparked something inside him though, and he stood out after that. I think he'd probably prefer to play regularly for you lot than us, but I get the impression he just wants regular football just now.

I'm assuming Mowbray will play 442, and I don't see where Swanson features in a 442. He's on decent wages here, more than what Peterborough had offered him, so unless he's good enough to start week in week out I would let him go.

He was mostly on the left of a four for us in midfield, buts it a different scenario up here in terms of game plan and that.

David Bell mark II. Seems to have some ability but never fit enough to string a few games together at any great level. I'd offload him.

Swanson looked okay just before he moved. Obviously gifted, but never seemed to perform well in League One against physical opposition.

Yes similar to Bell. Bell was far better than Baker in the championship but seemed to lack something

To be honest if i was asked what is Swanson's position i wouldn't be sure of the answer. And to be fair can't really comment on how good he is or isn't. Under a proper manager he might be okay.

I was a bit disappointed when we shipped him out in January as he'd struggled with injuries and was beginning to come back to fitness. He's a 'potential' game changer in my opinion so I'd be interested to see TM's thoughts on him before flogging him north of the border.

If he does decide he wants rid, I doubt he'd command a fee.

Although Mowbray did galvanise an under performing squad when he came in, we don't want to end up with the same bodies going into this season which at the moment is looking likely at present with Stokes, Reda, Proschwitz and Tudgay all seeking likely to stay put. A shake up of some sort is definitely required although probably not as drastic as has been the case in recent seasons.

Whilst I get what you are saying, last year the midfield was the core of all our problems. The back four was steady enough at times and will only improve. The strikers barely had any service all season. I can't think of one game we dominated. If Mowbray overhauls the midfield with some pace and power, players like Tudgay and Proschwitz could be completely different players.

I always thought he was OK in the early part of the season for us. Pressley froze him out and off he went. I would like to give him another chance.

I think he was shipped at to get gametime and match fitness. TM wants to have a look at him and I think the coin is in the air. If he comes back with the bit between his teeth, then he could be like a new signing. Then again if someone better is on offer we may let him go north if there is interest up there.

i think he will end up staying we need the numbers and he seemed half decent plus with the time he had in Scotland he could come back a touch better. scored the only goal in a game at Celtic park if i recall correctly that's got to boost your confidence if nothing else does.

Potential to be a big player for us, and a game changer, can operate on either flank and beat his man with ease when confidence is high, ripped us a new one when at Peterborough , fresh start fresh ideas, certainly not another D Bell by any means!

Not looking likely at the moment in my opinion. Made quite an impression during pre-season but has been hit with an injury which hasn't seen him feature in our opening 2 games.

Personally I'd like us to keep him but not sure what Mowbray's plans are. I doubt he would let him go unless he had a viable replacement in place anyway.

We had the second installment of Stevie May money this Summer (£400k), and also could get a percentage of his next fee (rumoured to be 10-20%) which looks like it might come this Summer. Not entirely sure how much we'd be willing to spend though.

We've always hinted at leaving room in the budget for him though.

He was IMO our best player in the Cambridge pre season friendly. Gives us the option to have someone who can play in the wide role if needed.

He was probably our best at Luton too.

He done more than that, was absolutely massive (...) in our late charge and I doubt we'd have finished as high without him. He's pretty much exactly what we're missing just now.

£100k would be relatively cheap considering some of the deals in Scotland lately, but we've not spent over £50k on anyone for well over a decade.

Then it's looks grim for St Johnstone then I am afraid unless you can get him on loan, we are too threadbare I think.
