At least he is off the wage bill. Would have been nice to get even a nominal fee though.

Surprised Sheffers hasn't been officially released yet.

Looks like he will be signing for Notts County then. If he does stay fit then not a bad signing.

How laughable is it now that we actually extended his contract to stop people from snapping him up on a free?

Top work orange Ken!

Yeahh I'm glad we are saving the wages. But say 100k would of been nice.

Real life is not like football manager I'm afraid. There wasn't a chance in hell we were going to get someone stupid enough to pay money for him after the way his career has gone last few years.

Isn't every player that leaves set to 'come back and haunt us'? What's the alternative, stockpile footballers in a big warehouse in the hope that opposition won't be able to put out a team?

He will have been paid to leave, a large amount most likely. Quite possibly upwards of quarter of a mill. If they haven't done this he would be better just sitting around getting money for nothing.

Now is probably the correct time for thanking him for agreeing to termination rather than sitting and picking up his wages for his contract, as he could have done, and as some have implied he would.

Unless of course we(we?!? SISU..) had to pay him some dosh to bugger off I guess.

The Bomb Squad is due to be pulped, just like Alan Partridge's autobiography.

Erring on the side of optimism, I'd like to believe he has professional pride so that the chance to play football outweighed any potential lazy cash-in he could have stuck with. At 29 he's got to be near his last contract as a player.

Never been so pleased for a player to leave, sucked cash out of us like a locust give noting in return. Good riddance to the bell end.

He's human, considering how big a risk he is I can't believe he is on even half of what he was before. If thats the case he could perhaps earn a similar amount staying here and doing nothing than he could playing untill 33. As someone with a huge history of injuries you owe it to yourself and your family to stay where you are which has much less risk to your health than 4 more years of playing.

If the figures were somewhat similar then professional pride has you choosing to play. Leaving for half the money to play isn't professional pride its stupidity.

All speculation of course but I believe it to be much more likely than the other 2 scenarios of leaving willingly with a massive paycut, or leaving willingly on similar wages.

I believe the rules state that if a club wants rid of a player who has a contract the player is entitled to the difference between the wages the new club are paying him and what he would have earned if he stayed. Of course, he could have accepted a lump sum that's actually lower than what he'd have earned which saves you some money. We'll never really know though. It's a bit odd that we haven't announced the length of his contract. I'd have expected a year with options, but maybe we had to offer an extra year to get him to sign for us, as he's potentially a class player, it's just his injury record that is dodgy.
