Paolo di Canio is lining up a shock return to England – as manager of League Two Swindon.

Di Canio will fly in for talks with Robins chairman Jeremy Wray this week after applying for the vacant post at the County Ground.

Former boss Paul Hart decided to leave the club after they were relegated.
Firebrand Di Canio, who played for West Ham, Sheffield Wednesday, Celtic and Charlton, has no managerial experience but has his UEFA coaching badges.

The Italian, famed for pushing over referee Paul Alcock during a game in 1998, has touted himself to replace Avram Grant at Upton Park – but knows he needs to prove himself in the lower divisions first.

Speaking last year, Di Canio’s agent Phil Spencer said: “Paolo is serious about management.”

He could probably still play at that level and be the best player by a country mile. Legend and one of those on my "I would love to have seen in a City shirt" list.

Love Di Canio! Should have signed for Utd, would have been the next Cantona and special to watch. Does anyone remember his sporting play award for catching a cross instead of scoring when he was free in the box as a player was injured. What a gent.

Great player . Great skill .
His best moment was pushing the ref who collapsed and took a dive , I wish Paulo had given Nigel Winterburn a slap as he walked off the pitch .
