Did Jukebox suit our style of play? (1 Viewer)

Thought and Bell found a couple of extra gears yesterday playing next to Nimely. His pace and direct running was what I felt we were lacking when Jukebox played for us. Personally I think we may well climb the table now that we have the pace of Sheff and Nimely combining with the crossing of Bell and the Aerial balance of Platt. We just look better.

I'm glad the Juke has gone!

Sheffers is not lightening quick by any means, who is at CCFC ??? (possibly Nimely) but can gain yards with a first time "touch and run" manouvre.

Don't knock the lad because he is now playing in his preferred position (at last) and the goals (good ones at that) are now rolling in.

I don't recall Sumo Quinn out sprinting away from many defences (maybe over 2 yards !!!) but he was still a prolific scoreer as Sheffers has proved over the years for CCFC

Keep it up Gary - show those knockers.

McSheffrey is quick over a few yards, i.e 'nippy' - but not quick in a straight race in the way Cyrus Christie is.

I would say Juke fit in well with our style of play - it was not having a partner with pace that screwed us over.

Based on yesterday's performance from Nimley - he and Juke would've been a really good partnership.

yes Juke did suit our style of play but like turner we had to sell him to sign a player or 2.

Juke and Nimley up top would have been a really good partnership at this level.

I would put it slightly differently. We did not suit the way Juke would prefer to play. Juke and Nimely to me would be a great partnership. Just the same as Platt seems to fit in with him, but Juke scores goals as well.

Not sure about that Mcsheffrey's goal came from Nimely's clever flick. How often did the Juke put Mcsheffrey through? In fact Juke and Mcsheffrey was a dire combination, possibly because Juke didn't stand in front of goal as often as Nimely was yesterday. Juke dropped too far back. So consequently Mcsheffrey had to feed off scraps.

Would Juke and Nimely have worked? I doubt it because Juke wouldn't have been close enough to Nimely.

Maybe Juke tried to do too much. Juke and Nimely are two totally different players. Nimely gives confidence as he has an excellent touch and goes past players with ease. Juke had strength. This is why I say he is a better version of Platt. Juke could have done the job of Platt with the bonus of being able to score more goals.

He is a good player. We just never had the right strike partner for him or played to his strengths enough.

I agree astute, he's a cracking player but so many of our fans like to label our old players as "poor" once they leave, which is rediculous.

What would be his ideal partner? He is not a target man, Platt holds the ball up far better. He is not a skillful centre forward as he is too tall and obvious. He is not a natural finisher either So what is his ideal role and who would be his ideal partner?

I think someone like nimely would have been a good partner, juke has great movement and they would create space for each other, and although not an out and out target man juke was really good at holding the ball up.

What? Did you ever see Juke play???

Platt holds the ball up better? If by holding up you mean letting it bounce off you. Any more than 2 touches and we lose the ball with Platt, Juke regularly kept 2 or 3 men at bay until support arrived

Not a natural finisher? The guy was on for 20 goals in the lowest scoring side in the football league!

Bit early to make such claims I think. Let's not forget that Jutkiewicz managed to score nine league goals in a team that has one of the lowest goal totals in the entire football league. It'd be unfortunate if the revisionism comes out early and we find out he was actually rubbish.

Juke is a big loss to us but was playing in a struggling team so started to 'panic' s little when he did not score, he will come good at boro....unfortunately.

Search my posts I was never a fan of Jukebox. I came round a bit near the end when he became a consistent goal threat but I never liked the impact he had on our style of play. He lacked pace and was nowhere near direct enough.

I now look forward to going to watch Cov play again. Now we have Nimely we are more exciting to watch. early days though...

Platt plays the ball onto the CF that is running on which is why he worked so well with Nimely.

Imagine if Juke was a natural finisher, he could've been on for 15+ by now.

I agree with Astute, Juke had a Rooney-esque issue of trying to do it all from deeper positions. Doesn't help that when a ball was put in by another player he'd miss 2 of every 3 but that'll improve I guess...

Was the Juke deliberately coached to forage down the flanks and to neglect the central role - didn't make sense to me at all.

I think he would have scored even more playing more centrally as very often having won the ball from the opposing fullback there was no one in the middle to receive his crosses.

Crosses and Centreforewards don't go together for me - i want the CF lurking around the pen area to receive balls from centremids and overlaping fullbacks not the other way round - simples innit ???

Noel Whelan worked the flanks a lot, but then he had Dion as a foil. Juke & Platt similar system, a lot less quality, a hell of a lot less.

Juke is a very good championship striker, excelled best with King and Platt. Imo this is because both these players play centrally through the middle of the pitch. Juke is a work horse, he will get battered by the CB for 90 mins and run the channels all day.

Even if he doesn't score as a CB you know you are in for a hard days work if the Juke is on the other side.
