Suddenly it's difficult to see the how we will end this slump. After today I may end up joining Otis's caravan of doom and pessimism. He was right to suggest we may not even win today. The fact is we should have and the Fleetwood game. So why didn't we?
The players just seemed lacklustre all over the park but for the odd moment here and there. Second to the ball, lacking any real decision making or making the wrong decision and pass. No one forward enough in the box. Our sense of purpose has disappeared from the level it was.
We were marginally better than the last home game but it took a while before we looked like a threat. Then the second half we lost the plot rather than improving.
I'm not advocating a big man up front but our natural game of pace and passing through has been failing of late so we must make the right changes. That is not Fortune. Madders put effort in today but it does seem he is half at Norwich. Yes he was clipped a lot today but he also went down too easy and ran into trouble too much.
Cole was one of our best players so did not understand his substitution. Fleck must be brought forward from deep. We are not getting his ability to pick a pass from his deep position.
But the real blame lies with TM. He has a good squad and able to pick a team much the same as the one that
got us to a good position so what's the problem?
Saying people have figured us out is a weak excuse. All teams play a certain way be it Arsenal, Leicester or Burton! It's the attitude, the will and the endeavour we have lost.
TM and MV will know all too well the issues and also know a win however achieved will boost the confidence that must now be deeply set in. But he has the skills to lead this group to the play off's and just needs to get these players to make the effort and put in the concentration to help make sure it still happens.
The Shrews will be a real test of wills now and everyone will be looking for some effort. Still think we will turn it around because we have the players and the manager to do it, we just need to re-ignite the spark. Conventional wisdom says it will change but with a game in hand and opposition on paper relatively weak now would be a good time.
