I’d say only two of our prime ministers since the 80s could be said to have much charisma at all. Let’s not even get into the current leaders of Germany, Italy etc. Mastery of internal party politics seems to be the defining characteristic for a wannabe PM.
The problem Brown faced was that after Blair, his USP was that he was a serious, intellectual, conviction politician.
