Big earner to join former boss

Coventry City midfielder Michael Doyle is set to join his old manager Mickey Adams at Sheffield United later today.
Rumours surrounding Doyle's imminent departure from Coventry rose last weekend when he was linked with a move to relegation threatened Sheffield United.

Doyle always got on well with Mickey Adams and he was at Bramall Lane yesterday having a medical while his agents were negotiating on his behalf.
It is understood that there will be no fee for the 29 year midfielder, but as he is one of the highest earners currently at the the club, his departure will release some funds for Aidy Boothroyd to bring in another player should he choose to.

The main point of negotiation yesterday was the length of contract The Blades will offer Doyle, but it is not seen as a serious problem and the deal will probably be done i time for Doyle to be in the Sheffield team to face Leicester on Saturday.
Doyle praised Adams after the one sided 0-0 draw at The Ricoh between Sheffield United and Coventry City saying, “It was brilliant under Micky who was a great manager to work for."
"I really enjoyed working under him. He has got a lot of character and that is what he is all about.”

Bye Doyler been a good servent to CCFC

I doubt he'll get replaced this window which is quite worrying when you look at our central midfielders Clingan - hasn't played 90 minutes for over 3 months, Carsley - injuryed, Deegan - Injured, Osbourne - injured, Gunnarsson is at the minute the only fully fit central midfielder.

you bring up a valid point.... if we don't get a replacement perhaps Aidy will use Conor Thomas or put Baker in the middle and Bell out wide

I think the Baker in the middle and Bell out wide has potenial and probably the one i would choose if need be. As for Thomas i think to chuck him in the middle in such a intense role for a stretch of games will prove to be too much for young inexperienced shoulders, especially if we get ourselves back in the mix.

Hopefully Clingan and Gunnarsson will stay fit and Aidy won't have this dilema to deal with.

Is there a potential move for Gunnar tho? C.Thomas looked promising when he came on. He could alternate with Sammy until he's back to full fitness. Aidy did also push Cranie into midfield before.

ive not seen anything about Gunnar other than what has been said about his contract, but if he does go then there NEEDS to be a replacement (even if only a loan) because we've all seen where playing square pegs in round holes has got us before.

If we don't sign anyone there is still the emergency loan window if Sammy or Gunner get injured/suspended also Doyle has been captain last couple of games so it will be intresting to see who is made captain against Brum.

i can see King getting the armband against Brum. He's got the experience and he's a big character in the team so why not.

I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure we could get someone in on loan who's as good as Dolye. Great servant to the club, hope for scores at the weekend!

Doyler signs for Sheff United

The deal which takes Michael Doyle to Sheffield United was finally signed this afternoon.

Doyle leaves Coventry City on a free transfer as his contract at the Ricoh Arena had been due to expire at midnight on June 30th and Doyle had been able to speak to other clubs since January 1st.

Speaking to Sheffield United's club website about the move, Doyle who joined City from Celtic in 2003 after impressing in reserve team trials said:"I am looking forward to the challenge of helping this massive club get back up the table, and delighted to be re-united with Micky Adams because he was a big reason in me deciding to come here. He wants to be successful and so do I"

Well good luck to him. Shame we didn't get anything out of it besides his wage being gone. Onwards and upwards now sky blues!

One reason I'm quite happy he's gone is that he's been here too long, he's part of the unsuccessful squad we've had running around for the past 8 years. Good luck to him though, hope he keeps the blades up.

Great servant, I loved the way he'd upset midfields with the odd stamp or elbow. He gave bite during all the gutless squad years. My best Doyle memory, the screaming winner from outside the box versus Preston in last few minutes. About 3 years ago a Ricoh. Good luck Doyler!

Reckon Richard Wood will get the armband on Saturday, as for Doyle sad to see him go. Fair enough if he was a bench warmer but last few games he's been more and more involved I thought, but hey ho. Wish him all the best, we don't have to play Sheff Utd again this season and by the looks of it they'll be down next season so it'll be a while before we see him again
