Anybody else watching this? Family of 4 spending well over 300 a week on their shopping, were getting close to financial trouble.

What planet do people live on?

For £15,000 a year, I hope they're all at least 28 stone!

The way they turned their noses up at carrots without the green still on the top.

Very weird.

The woman was just buying the most expensive stuff for the sake of it, then they worry they are struggling with money. Common sense really.

The parents were big but not massive, the kids were slim.

I don't think I could physically spend that for 3 people if I tried. Unless I was having £15 steaks for breakfast!

I am not being facetious here but genuinely is £300 a week a huge amount for food?

I guess it depends how many you are feeding and if you are going to get into debt because of it I guess.

I probably wouldn't spend half of that for 2 adults and a child and thats with things like fresh meat, veg etc every day for lunch and dinner.

I think we could probably eat Lunch and Dinner out every day for £300 a week. That's not expensive restaurants by any means but it just goes to show.

£43 a day on a food shopping (that isn't including what they spend if they eat out or buy lunch at work or school etc).

Genuinely think by myself it's about £30 a week. Now OK that's partly an enforced diet meaning copious amounts of veg and soup... but I'm not exactly wasting away!

Is this the same Grendel that was complaining about how much a peroni was in the farmhouse the other week, in answer to your question, yes it is and would probably bankrupt most households in Coventry. We don't all shop at Harrod's you know

If you are regularly dining on quail's eggs, foie gras and lobster thermidor then yes, I suppose it's possible to spend £300 a week on food shopping.

A little bit of good husbandry needed with the housekeeping money in these austere times perhaps?

I would say we spend around £60 or so a week, that's for me, the missus and my 11 year old daughter.

£300 is incredibly high.

We spend near enough that possibly £50 less - it depends on discipline but it's easy to do.

Yeah, same for us. Around £65 a week for the three of us, with the odd "top up" during the week.

Yep exactly. Sometimes I will have my beans on toast on a French Boule rather than just on a Kingsmill white slice.

You have to push the boat out occasionally otherwise life gets a tad dull.

300quid a week is a fair whack but I can see how a family of 4 could get through that much if they bought good quality food.

My girlfriend and I spend about 125 a week for the two of us.

Really?? My family is a family of 4, we spend around £100 a week, we buy decent food, fresh veg, meat etc, and we'd never dream of spending £300. They must be constantly eating to spend that much.

You must buy a lot of ready or pre-prepared meals to spend that much ,what's your idea of good quality food ..I find shopping daily instead of weekly I stopped throwing food we bought in the big shop away

Ready or pre-pared meals? I think not!

I have lived in Italy and have and an Italian girlfriend, so like to think we eat a lot better than most on this country.

I only buy free range meat, which pushes the price up quite a lot.

It's a combination to be honest.

Yes we have free range meat and even small chops are £10 for 4. Also though you can easily get suckered in to buying top range pre packed meals and vegetables. Also never shopping for the week. I've known spending £60-£70 and run out of food two days later having purchased small meals.

Some people are so anul about the dates on food as well. I'm thinking specifically about my brother here. He doesn't understand the difference between use by and best before dates for starters and he throws everything out the day before. I keep telling him to use his nose and some common sense, when meat or milk is off for instance is pretty obvious. What does he think people did before everything was date stamped?

Anyhow. Back on topic, we spend about £100.00 a week on the big shop for a family of four and top that up maybe another £20-30 with luxury items. One thing we do splash out on is good quality meat for Sunday dinner. Has to be free range and butchered correctly.

We spend about £70 a week for the two of us. That doesn't include meat or eggs which we get from a local farm.

We spend between £50 - £80 for 4 adults depending on how thirsty for sauvingnon blanc the wife is feeling. As we're veggies & I grow my own veg it's usually closer to £40-£50 during the summer.

I would say we spend too much around £150 per week 2 adults and 3 kids this includes nappies, wipes etc, we try to save by doing online as I am a terrible shopper if I see a bogof I buy 5 deals even though it is on offer all month or sometimes forever. Plus £10.50 per week for school dinners for the older one and the younger two eat at nursery twice a week.

You've been to Italy and have an Italian girlfriend?

That comes as a really big surprise as I swear that you've never mentioned that before.......

We normally spend around 40-65 on a average week for a family of four and 2cats. We don't buy cheap food at all but clearly don't get shafted by some of the major brands that idiots in these programs do. We generally make two or three portions of food and freeze.
