England Keepers ? (1 Viewer)

We saw Burge mess up again on Friday night, but he's not the only keeper to blunder this weekend. But at a higher level Pickford had a nightmare at Newcastle, and Heaton of Burnley wasn't exactly solid at Anfield today. But I'm old enough to have seen the likes of the late great Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton make errors in a game, and remember Bonetti in the World Cup, he made mistake after mistake. Do you think we criticise goalies too much, and recall errors above good performances ?

Thankless job until pens really though isn’t it? Pull off save after save and gets forgotten but one howler can wipe out all that good work.

I knew there’d be thread on this as soon as De Gea made that error. It’ll be used as ammunition by the Burge apologists to excuse his next gaff. They will run out of excuses soon hopefully.

Burge makes 10 mistakes but it’s ok because X made 1 mistake

But it's not just his (numerous) blunders Burge is criticised for. It's his all round dreadful goalkeeping ability.
If he dropped a changer 2 or 3 times in a season, it wouldn't be so bad.
But his constant flapping at crosses, staying on his line when he should be out, coming out when he should be staying (see Walsall away), his lack of confidence, his lack of presence, his lack of voice and organizational skills, his constant poor distribution. Need I say more?!

The apologists wot a crock of shit!! We are such shit supporters
Being a supporter doesn’t mean you have to blindly ignore all the bad bits of a players game like you do. On another thread I seem to remember you saying that Kelly shouldn’t have passed it back to Burge, as if that was a reason for his mistake. Now that is what I call a crock of s**t!

If you build up enough good will, you can be forgiven the odd mistake. If you make too many mistakes, the good will goes out the window.
If there is any player in your team who you want to make the least mistakes possible, it's the goal-keeper.
For Burge, he has poor decision making and poor distribution. These are basic qualities any decent goal-keeper must have.
