FA Cup Replays / Too Many Games Argument (5 Viewers)

It's madness that Tamworth didn't get a big day out after getting a draw in 90 minutes, but then the Spurs manager said about "too many games".

If they play too many games, why is the League Cup Semi Final over 2 legs? Is it only OK to have more games if they are friendlies in Australia or Semi Finals where it's usually against other big teams?

I agree but not sure I could be @rsed with another game against Wednesday.

I suspect the actual answer to the league cup being two legs is that nobody that supports the 'big' teams is going to a neutral ground mid-week for a semi-final but you could just have first team drawn at home I would have thought.

The argument about too many games totally falls apart when clubs fuck off to Saudi or wherever the minute there's a few days free.

It will never happen and I haven't really thought it through but f*ck the PL clubs out of the League cup. Give the winner entry to the 'Europa Conference' or whatever its called (along with 1 PL team as it stands). I think it would be great for the pyramid and would make people actually watch the league cup, that anyone could win.

In some domestic cups in Europe the lower league team are able to switch the game the opponents ground.

Though saying that, if I was of Tamworth persuasion I’d rather have a go at Spurs in extra time than the likely hammering in the replay.

I don't know (or particularly care) if PL clubs feel that strongly about it, but I personally think the League Cup and EFL Trophy should just be merged and you can leave the PL clubs out of it altogether. Two-leg semi-finals are madness.
Always thought League Cup would be more interesting if it was a cup that involved the Scottish teams too. Make it unique.

This is a sensible idea because these clubs could do with the extra gate money playing away in a 20, 30, 40+ thousand seater stadium.

If you’re scrapping replays, you need to compensate the smaller teams who may be banking on money spinner ties to either stay alive or springboard their climb up the leagues.

Drop all European sides from it, stick the Scots in and that’s a decent little cup that would ensure everyone is motivated to take it seriously if have thought.

Unfortunate for them.

However, the opinion “cost them millions” to miss out on a replay is utter nonsense though, and a shitty annoying misuse of English language.

Or just teams in the EFL. The 'big' clubs don't give a shit so don't make them play it. Would be nice to have a competition we actually have a shot at winning as a Championship side.

They clearly do - in the last 10 years only Man City, Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea have won it

I’m in the minority. 3rd round onwards there isn’t many non league sides left usually. Tamworth themselves benefitted from the penalty shootout in the 2nd round

it leaves football league and Prem sides playing extra games they don’t want. We regularly showed our disdain up until last season playing weakened sides.

I think it was better for all last season. 5th round onwards no replays. Can even do it for 4th round.

or you can offer lower league sides the chance to switch venue in 3rd round.

I don’t agree with scrapping replays.

Another thought, why bother with extra time and not go straight to penalties?

I think if a league 1 or lower tier team get a team to 90 mins, but don’t get a replay.

The higher league team should have to pay them the amount of money the replay would have earnt them. So it’s almost like a fine and may stop so many teams playing their reserves too.

I’d also go with no relays from 5th round onwards.

Yeah, this isn't really about too many games.
It's about too many in the 'wrong' competitions.
They'll happily go along with the CL expanding.

Exactly, in reality they don't want to play 2 games against a non league side but if they get a shout for a friendly in Australia they are all over it.

Then the FA completely change the competition just for them. They should be saying "cut down on some of the other shit or don't enter the cup".

All knock-out football matches should be decided on the day.

Replays are shite.

If you can't prevail after 120 minutes, and there HAS to be a victor, then use the essence of the game (scoring goals) to decide a winner.

A few years ago, this was allowed. Quite rightly clubs were prevented from doing this as it handed the advantage back to the bigger club and made an upset (something that everyone wants to see unless it’s your own club) that much more unlikely. Just have the replays, allow the smaller clubs both their shot at glory and a big pay day. It’s only the ‘elite’ who perhaps benefit from no replays and they already have things stacked in their favour.

Also a mockery was in the couple of days after the season finished PL teams were jetting off to the States and Australia to play in tournaments. The Premier League is the single worst thing that has ever happened in the modern game. And the gulf gets wider and wider every season.

Bang on the money.

Tamworth should claim compensation from the FA for missing out on about a million pound from the money they could have earned from the replay.

Good grief, you do come out with some weird ideas, this one beats the lot of them.
