Falling out of love with football.... (1 Viewer)

It's actually really sad that a football club can be run sooo badly that everything about the club is affected in such a way, that Saturday afternoons (or Tues nights) are beginning to mean absolutely nothing anymore.

Everytime we take the lead, I now joke with my housemate that it's ok as we'll lose by a goal in the 90th minute. This is the third time it's happened this season. He's a toffee but now sees us as his Second team...even he can't believe things.

I gave up playing myself after last season to take up a more gentile sport in golf. CCFC are my only tie to the game I loved as a kid, throughout my teens and in my twenties.

Now into my thirties, I can't be arsed anymore. I live in hope that something needs to break for us...what goes around, comes around so we must be due some luck soon but I just cannot see it.

I don't know what needs to change...I think it's a number of things but something needs to be done. The club is dying a very slow and very painful death and the fans are going to become more and more isloated. Can I see CCFC in existence in 2 years? No.

SOS...someone...please...

Feel exactly the same. Loved Highfield Rd in the Prem and even enjoyed the Championship to start with - new grounds. teams and more old score feel. The club is all but dead the amount of hardcore supporters who have stopped going in the last two years is unbelievable.

We are the next Bradford and Plymouth - Living in Bedworth im considering getting a season ticket to watch the Green Backs next season. Times are tough money wise and cant justify the city anymore

Whilst I agree with much of the above with regards why I have fallen out of love with the game, every time I hear the lame excuse 'he felt a touch in the box and he's in his rights to go down'; I remember why I go off the modern game daily

Can't be arsed to watch the Blackpool 'highlights' on BBC web site.

Can't be arsed to watch the Ipswich 'highlights' when they show up on the BBC web site.

For this club, the word 'Highlights' doesn't apply this season, and let's face it, it hasn't meant much for previous seasons either.

Yes thats how you feel but frankly I'm more resigned to watching football and enjoying it rather than taking the view our club is my reason to live sort of take on it!

It's a fickle old game and yes we may go down. Had we won by that whisker at Blackpool and again today you would feel completely different...and its really just a moment of time that is the difference.

Going down may be great for us as was for many clubs before us, Norwich, Southampton, Man City and others.

Just look at it as part of the fun ride for a while....nothing more than that.

The odd result such as Boro last week, gives us a glimmer of hope but overall, everything is fundamentally wrong with our club. I'm not sure sacking Thorn is the answer...who is going to come in and do a better job? We've seen Adams, Dowie, Coleman etc all come and go. All had flaws but all did ok at other clubs, yet failed at CCFC. The only common denominator is CCFC...I'm sure that bar Mourinho or Ferguson, no one would stand a chance at this club in terms of management.

I'm not commending Thorn at all, but weren't many fans satisfied with the type of football we've been playing at various points through the season? I'm also not saying to stick with him...I really don't know what the answer is, but the club needs sorting out - top to bottom.

I'm not keen on supporting Bognor Regis or Havant and Waterlooville....

I'm losing heart too.

I love my club, but should that really involve 12 + years of pain and aguish.

Success wise across the leagues we are the worst team of all. No promotions, not even a play-off.

It wears you down.

It's all so very sad.

...there comes a point where even SISU should recognise change is needed. If you were losing money in your restaurant you would get Ramsey in to sort it out and find what needs to change right? Same here, change is needed, the chefs crap, the foods crap the customers are unhappy and getting fewer. Wouldn't you do what you could to help it get better? Denial won't get it done. But the chefs such a nice guy attitude won't help. You need one who can cook!

Hi Paxman,

You're right...different outcomes in our last two games might have left my mood in a different place, but we've thrown away 21 points this season from drawing or winning positions. That's not good enough.

It's been constant over the season...and it's getting boring now. Had we kept those 21 points, the season would be different. It's fair to say that Thorn should take some of the blame for this. I would also counter that and say that the backroom issues should also take some blame. Has Thorn got a good backroom staff? Good enough coaches? Good enough fitness team to keep the team lasting for 95 minutes as opposed to 85?

If we had spent more money, would we have a better squad more capable of being higher in the league? If we'd of been able to keep Turner, Gunnar etc would be be higher up the table? I'm all for running the club efficiently, especially after our previous close shave with administration and looking at the likes of Portsmouth in their current plight.

Like I said previously, not sure what the answer is. I know we're going down but I would question your point about relegation being good for us Paxman. I can see why you would say that (citing the examples you did) but I'm sure we said that when we were relegated from the Prem. 'A year in the Championship will do us good and we'll bounce straight back'.

For every Southampton, there's a Bradford, Sheff Weds etc and we're more likely to head down that route, than Southampton, Man City etc.

Sad to say, but I've followed City since 1954.....seen 'em from the 3rd ....went down to the 4th.......the humiliation of Kings Lynn (the amateur team made up of brickies and window cleaners) and all the way to the top. The sad part is I reckon they're heading back there quicker than when they left. Ah well.....what comes 'round goes 'round.

Next generation are no longer interested in Coventry.

When in the prem we struggled to get a full house then yet at least we were in the premiership and the interest was there.

Now a decade in the championship we are going to Division 3. Lowest crowds ever and we have lost a new generation of supporters.

The club has been killed.

Failure after failure.

There are many ways in which football has gone in the wrong direction, but hopefully these new Financial Fair Play rules will be a step forward. Creating some parity will be a good thing; as much as people may criticise SISU for not spending, you'll find most other clubs in a similar boat within the next year or two.

heard the other day that with Vaz Te, Maynard and Nolan, Cole and Picquionne were costing 200k a week between them.

So very very true.

My son after the game today, asked if he had to support the club any longer. I really didnt know what to say but did my best.

He is ten and probably one of only three or four City fans in his year at school. There are sixty plus kids in his year. Thats terrible.

He asked when we were going to win again, when we werent going to keep losing in the last minute, when we were going to have any success.

I lied and said next year. What a liar. Desperate!

skyblueweeman, I did not say going down would be good for us? I said MAYBE' going down might be good for us. Very important difference. What I say in that statement is maybe meaning the opposite could be true?

Having said that i do believe we would not struggle too long in league 1 because the fair play rules will have a demanding affect on clubs and we should be able to do better than most 'small time' operators. Even with just 8/10,000 support it would be a darn sight more than 3/4 of that league.

A good manager in place that knows that and championship level (like Grayson) will have a good impact is my belief.
You must think positive skyblueweeman...there's a silver lining coming. Trust me. Mean time enjoy the games, the day out and even going to the likes of Walsall and co as the 'heavyweights' for a change. It could be fun....I know Norwich made fun of it! Look where they are now in just 2 seasons!

Look forward not backward.

Paxman, thank god you came in there with some optimism. I had the knife at my wrist from reading the rest! We have to believe there will be a silver lining down the road. We WILL be a "big club" in Lg1 and we will get out, if not next year, the one after. I am not sure we will see the prem again, but who knows.
