Have always wondered three things that I think would be worth discussing:

1. What estimated percentage of our fan base is based in and around the Coventry?
2. Are their parts of the City that are very loyal and full of CCFC fans compared to others?
3. If you were born outside Coventry why did you choose them as your team to follow?

My answer to point 3 as someone not born in Coventry: Unlike many of my mates opted not to support a glory team and instead followed my nearest Premier League club.

Born in Banbury way back in the Ice age and my Dad started to take me to Cov games in 1969 ,and the love was born and has remained ever since.

I was born and have lived in Coventry for all of my 19 years on this planet. I was too young to go to Highfield Road on my own so when the Ricoh was built, it was much better for me. I could get to the games on my own and much more frequently. This season is my 3rd as a season ticket holder and I plan on continuing this tradition for many years to come. Seeing as I was born in Coventry, grew up in Coventry and I loved football from a young age, Coventry City was the ideal choice. My mum and brother are both from Leicester and although my dad was born in Coventry, he doesn't pay much attention to the team, so it was against the odds that I became a sky blue. The last member of my family to go to games as religiously as I did was my great-granddad, so really im following in his footsteps and will encourage my kids to do the same, if I have any

1. What estimated percentage of our fan base is based in and around the Coventry? - Impossible to gauge how many fans we have in far flung places. If I had to guess, I'd say, 50%??
2. Are their parts of the City that are very loyal and full of CCFC fans compared to others? Not local, don't know.
3. If you were born outside Coventry why did you choose them as your team to follow? Born and raised in N.Ireland (cracking result for us earlier tonight...it's been a good couple of days for me and results as well as an acca coming in) and moved to England when I was about 8 when my old dear remarried a gent from Kenilworth. I switched allegiance from about the age of 5/6 (1986/86) from Liverpool to Cov.

Never liked the Champions League anyway

Wasn't born in Coventry and have never lived there.

However my dad was and did, going to his first game back in the mid 30's. Hence, so did I, though I had to wait until the late 60's!

My family is from Fermanagh on me mums side. My older brother was born in Enniskillen I was born over here. We went to Denmark 8 years ago to follow the old Nordi Iron and had a great time. Great fans, I never sat down the whole game and neither did anyone else (apart from the very very drunk guy in the seat in front who slept through the whole game only to be woken up by the ref blowing the final whistle) we took some good banter too for our English accents.

(edit) I'm sure I've been through Coleraineon the way to Portrush.

Grew up as a Leeds fan with my dad and used to go watch them a fair amount. I've even been in the away end at Highfield Road with Leeds but I never felt any affection. The first year at the Ricoh changed things for me. Left school and started going to games with friends home & away and realised how much more satisfaction I got out of seeing my local team win (Leamington FC, sorry but it wasn't for me!) If I have any kids, they'll be supporting City from the start!

Born in Coventry, live in Cov till I was 29, then moved to Rayne, Essex in 97, still had ST every year, wife gave up and bought me a PSL on 40th B.day. Both my children Will (16) and Issy (13) have had season tickets since they were 5 years old (except last season). Very proud of my two children, so much pressure to support local teams (Colchester, Ipswich, even Braintree or one of the teams in 'the smoke'), but no City Through and Through. Great to be back last Friday night, amazing atmosphere can't wait for Saturday

Good post - I watched the whole NI game earlier, was impressed with the desire, passion and in some cases the skill levels shown.
Would be great to see NI build a challenge in the group.

Need to get 3 points against the Faroes next game (the type we'd lose). Tough group for us with Romania and Greece also in there but 3rd place should be the goal if we start on 6 points after two games. Would've taken 4 points before today.

None of my grandparents are from Coventry and only one was born in England. But every one of them came to Coventry for work and they respected/respect the place. I was born in Coventry, my dad (born in South Africa) supports Coventry, so I support Coventy. Simple maths.

I used to know more Man United fans than Cov fans, their uncle supported them, or they found a scarf in the park when they were five. But they've gone a bit quiet the last 18 months. Cunts.

And the answer to 2 is no. There is no distinguishable differences between areas in Coventry other than money. And I've lived in Hillfields and Stivichall. There's City fans everywhere. Just not enough who turn up.

Coventry born and bred Sky Blue fan, lived here all my life, Holbrooks and mostly Stoke, have a huge family full of City fans, so my support was inevitable, lots of us too, bred like rabbits.
Blame my "great" grandad for me being a Sky Blue supporter, wouldnt have it any other way.

Born in Coventry. Dragged up in Nuneaton and Coventry. Kept moving away and moving back. Finally left for good in 95. It always amazes me how I meet people I have not seen for 20 years or more at games. The football is the only thing I miss about not living in Coventry. Still proud of Coventry and my roots though.

I've been following, supporting (late 80's to late 90's) and now following again Cov for the last 43 years. My Dad first introduced me to the delights of football watching Southend United in the old division 4 around 1967 when I was about 10, but as all my peers who were either following Man U, Chelsea, West Ham or Spurs, I didn't like to admit it . Like most youngsters I collected football cards which you stick in an album, and whist all the other clubs wore boring red, white or blue shirts with a splattering of claret from the likes of West Ham and the vile, there was one club who's pictures stood out from all the others in their brilliant sky blue. So from that day hence I fell in love with the Cov.

Born in Coventry a stones throw from Highfield Road, moved to Nuneaton when I was 30, moved to Tamworth when I was 40.

First game was in 69, vs Newcastle Utd 1-0 Ernie Hunt (pen) into the westend. Hooked every since.

I was born in Leicester, so supported them until I was 5. We then moved to the outskirts of Birrmingham, so I switched to the Villa. At the age of 9 we moved to Kent, so I then followed Man Utd.

When we finally moved to Cov I couldn't afford the bus to go to the Villa, so followed the Sky Blues instead.

I was born and bred in Coventry, and used to call into my Nan's in Berry street on the way to HR with my Dad. Moved away to Scotland, and finally settled in Wales (Caerphilly) I loved going to "Farmer Giles Cafe" in the City for chips and a pastie, and would be "Gob Smacked" watching the big guy that worked there eating his dinner...Usually consisted of at least 4 pasties and a couple of plates of chips, half a loaf, and a jug of gravy. lolol. Good times

I don't know whether "choose" is the right term.

I prefer "brainwashed by my dad".

My old man's a proud, dyed-in-the-wool, cut-him-and-he-bleeds-Sky-Blue type Coventrian. He was a regular attendee at HR until he moved to Oz in 1970, and was close to signing terms as a 16 year old with the club until my grandad told him to 'get a bloody education' and put paid to his fledgling professional career (or so my dad claims).

When I was old enough to understand sporting allegiances, it was made quite clear I had no choice.

I curse him for it still

Having said that, I'm going to do the same to my daughter, except I'm trying to make the brainwashing more subtle....

Born in Cov, but for all but a couple of years have lived 15 miles outside the City. Loyalty came from both sets of Grandparents and other family who all lived in different parts of the City. My parents were also born there but never followed football but my old boy did used to acquire some complimentaries as part of his job/contacts and I sat in the Sky Blue Stand from 1977. Apart from 1982 and last year, I've been to 20-35 games a season almost every year.

My family are Southern Irish (Cork City) and moved over to England to live in Coventry. I was born in Gulson Rd Hospital - early 1950's - first game 1963. Lived in Wickford (Essex), Birmingham (as a kid), Telford, back to Cov and now retired and live on the Isle of Wight. It was my Mad Uncle who decided to become a City fan, never missing a game and even getting into hospitality boxes at HR!

I live near Derby and my dad is a Derby fan. He used to take me to the Baseball Ground when I was very little. One Xmas when I was 8 yrs old I had a Derby shirt with the shirt number of my favorite player. It was number 7, Gerry Daly. That year he signed for Coventry and for the last 34 years I have followed them through thick, thin and thinner. On Friday I took my kids 5 and 7 yrs to their first game and they really enjoyed it. Hopefully the return to the Ricoh will secure the next generation of Cov fans

Have always lived in Balsall Common so I'm equidistant between Coventry and Birmingham. Not sure why I followed Coventry or football at all! I come from a non-football family so had no one to take me as a child. It sounds quite sad now looking back but I used to go once a year, as my birthday present. I'm 22 now, and have hardly missed a home game (barring sixfields) for about 5 years. Every game feels like its my birthday haha

Like the IOW, we stayed in a fabulous little cottage on Borthwood Lane in 2012. Looked over the fields to Sandown and Shanklin and then Culver Down. Cracking rural spot, horses in the fields in front and red squirrels hanging off the bird feeders in the back garden.
