Just what will be the benchmark for the next sacking.:thinking about:

'Sacked on the basis of a 45 minute period against bury'

Take it you've not been to game, brought a paper or had Internet connection in the past year and a half?

I've never been particularly 'anti-Thorn' but the sacking didn't surprise me.

While the Bury game was the straw that broke the camel's back, I don't think for a minute he was sacked on the basis of a bad 45 minutes. It was more that the Bury game summed up his tenure.

Many times last year we led only to throw the result away. Reasons were put forward. Tired players, young players, players out of position. But when it happens continually and then three times with a heavily changed set of players you have to assume lessons that should have been learned weren't learned.

I've no doubt Thorn's heart was in the right place, but I didn't get the feeling he had it in him to push us to promotion.

We lost so many points from wining positions. If we hadnt we might still be in the flipping championship. We got relegated by 8 points, but lost 25points ish? I swear he thought Football was 80mins like rugby matches!!!

Literally ridiculous, our squad wasn't competitive last season. Had Thorn kept us up, then I think it would've been the best Managerial achievement since we were relegated. Any manager would've struggled immensely to keep us up.Unfortunately he did not, but over the summer he has assembled an excellent squad, with what looks like a few very promising players. THREE games into the season he is fired.
It's an excellent point by dongonzalos, what if in 3 or 4 games, when the match fitness was back and the players had played together a few times we started to put in 90 minute performances like that against Bury. Few sides in this division would live with us.
On that basis I think unless there is off the field issues, then the decision is a knee-jerk reaction to that second half performance.

For me that is the strangest thing ,does honestly believe Thorn ever stood on the sideline and thought " i know i wont make subs , i wont try and change things cause i like losing " ?

And why will a new manager take us forward - Aidy Boothroyd anyone ?

We aint got a pot to piss in yet we are in the market for Billy Davies , McCarthy , Megson ......

Never said it was an easy game, that we swtiched off too many times and the lesson was never ever learnt!!!

Whilst I'm not certain about thorn i think we have one of the best squads in the league and we'd have most likely turned things round. Think our next manager will have a relatively easy job.

|As long as the players are happy that Thorn has gone ? Normally it is the players that get the manager the sack but it seems they arent happy about it or can understand why

Sadly i think loyalty from players is short lived and they'll soon be happily playing for someone else with barely a memory for thorn

I didnt think it was this bad that but it sounds like Thorn completely lost the dressing room!!!

Sacked because of a physical confrontation with 2 players after the game which waggott recieved an official complaint about.apparently 6 players agreed that thorn had just lost it.

Apparently it was sisus fault that we lost so many leads and got relegated last season.
This season that excuse cannot be aired. He bought in his own players and the same mistakes were continually happening.
He had to go, he should of gone before the end of last season because I Believe a decent manager would of kept us up!

Where did you hear this?

To be Honest there is a lot to look at. I think the fact that we have conceded so many leads in games would be as frustrating for the board as it is for uis as the fans. i have given Thorn so many chances and i think that maybe he does not see us having a problem with fitness also that he seems to make the odd substitution. It is still strange for me as they have allowed him to bring in so many players. In comes a new manager and he will reassess who he rates and who is not needed. players like Malaga, Edge, Elliot may not be a new managers cup of tea. i hope we go for experince i dont want a case of Carsley getting out i would like a manager who has a track record and understands the division.

But as I said on another post, hadn't Coleman, Reid, Adams, Boothroyd,Atkinson, Reid have track records elsewhere?

We need a manager that is tough enough to handle this league and the players in our team. It sounds like Thorn was a push over and it seems several players bullied him a little. If the rumours are true, that he cut training sessions to binge then it sounds to me he wasn't doing well emotionally.

From what I see these are all classic signs of depression and low self esteem. Losing his temper was probably a direct result of that draw being the last straw for him as well as for the board/club/fans etc. Seeing players consistently under achieving and possibly doing it on purpose (which I believe is a possibility) can break a man in a horrible way.

I'm amazed this didn't happen sooner to be honest. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the two players involved in this altercation would be Baker and maybe Macca. I've felt that Macca just hasn't been the same and if he had a deep dislike for Thorn, this could have influenced how he played on the pitch. Players won't play well for a manager they do not like.

As for Baker, I think the change in bonuses could be one reason. As for the others I'm not sure, maybe the constant cancellations of training sessions? Someone did say they'd spoken to his wife while at a match and she said Baker had started going for runs because he felt guilty for not training properly?

Do you think this will come out at any point in the media? Id have to say this would be another nail in the SISU coffin. It shows how much they do not know about football management. Any decent owners would have sorted these issues out months ago but SISU chose not too. Of course this is on the assumption that they knew which I believe they did.

Yeah it's all supposition but certain things that have come out lead me to this conclusion. On the radio yesterday Linnell and the main radio guy said in the after game interview that Thorn looked depressed and out of sorts. He said that even when the chips were down last season Thorn remained optimistic and his faith in the players was unwavering.

Linnell may have been on to something there as much as we may hate to admit it. The altercation plus (I believe) the knowledge that he was already on his way out had got him down in the dumps. A win would have been a lifeline for him and they let him down etc. It was just the icing on the cake, only the cake was stale and the icing wasn't set properly lol

I'm amazed people don't realise that it's coaches that run training, not managers...
