I think we will tail off between now and January. Bring in a couple of new signings and loan out a couple of fridge players and go again and consolidate around the 8-10th place position. Still a very good season.
I should of said we should be looking at the Scandinavian market! That’s cold mate.
I do agree with you though.
In terms of budget everyone seems to focus on over achievement, under achieving seems to go under the radar. Hard to argue that in 2019/20 Stoke with the 4th biggest budget achieved results/position equal to the cost.
Focus on a single figure to explain a seasons performance is misleading. Wage spend can be different to budget, depending on other factors. A total budget doesnt have to be spent for example.
If a "once in a lifetime manager" makes such a difference to teams over a number of seasons then that in itself points to it being more than the budget. It isnt just us who have had such an experience. One season fine but over 3 or 4 ?
Yes you can to a degree buy success but only if the other tools are also there to achieve it.
In terms of MR, as good as he is for us and he has been very good he is still like everyone else and will misjudge or make errors. In our case those errors are highlighted more because we don't have funds to invest in a squad of depth in quality. That in part because the owners make the club live within its means, something I think all clubs should. The cracks in his armour will come and go, if we out perform budget again I wouldn't be surprised. That will be because of the skill sets within the club won't it? And for the 5th season running ?
Am sure MR will consolidate us in this division irrespective of budget and that in its self is a huge success.
Enjoy it while it lasts and just maybe dream a little more realistically
There are only two types of player available in January
1. Over priced
2. Free and useless.
It is a terrible window to sign players on a permanent basis. Best option is probably loans.
We really just need a number 10 in Jan to compete with Ohare. Im sure there is plenty of talented prem youngsters its just finding the right one to bring in on loan
The situation with Walker is bizarre.
Yeah it’ll be loans.
Billy GilmourId take a CM as well TBH. Maybe a CB.
And in January the real potential talent will already be out on loan. Which means gambling on young untested talent. So still not a good window even for loans.
Take Gyokores last year, a good player , but after a failed loan at Swansea it took him a while to get going and find his form. Although James worked out very well.
2 out of 5 isn’t bad. In fact possibly 3 if you include jch. At this level the rewards could be significant though and at this level we’ve added James and yok so you could argue 2 out of 2We’ve been a bit hit and miss. Got in JCH in Jan, Giles, Meyler, Bright, James, Györkeres.
Do we ? Can’t see any sense to loan a player in as back up basically a reserve to anyone other than a goalie perhaps. Yes loan or sign better players which should make the team better as Matty James did last season, playing with better players should make our players and the team better. We really just need a number 10 in Jan to compete with Ohare. I could be mistaken on this, but weren't Gyo and James both out on season long loans but were recalled by their clubs for various reasons to place somewhere else? And in January the real potential talent will already be out on loan. Its a good point and I see what you're saying...I think we can only go off our opinions from what we see on the pitch, and output of players on the field and what we see and understand of the technical ability of the players. I think the bit we are all blinded by is the softer elements i.e a players mentality, personality, body language etc being expressed off the field or on the bench which Robins and his coaching staff will see and these may be things contributing as to why we see or don't see players coming on to the field when we expect them to or playing games in general. Just my opinion and maybe another perspective to consider.MR shouldn't be immune from criticism at all. However, and a point I've made before, if people on this forum (who are not qualified football coaches, likely with little/no experience of coaching at all) can say what they think is wrong, why do they - not a dig at you FB - why do they think MR and his team don't see the same things?
The Walker situation is bizarre mind.
But we're 4th in the table and going through a relative rocky patch. We're going to have them over the season so until we're less than 16th in the table and playing turgid football, I personally will just shrug my shoulders at results like last night and get onto the next game.

Gyo because he was not getting game time, and James because I assume he wanted to be nearer home.
So sometimes players unexpectedly become available.
Can we change the title of this thread to wank detector?
