Coventry City's hopes of capturing Brewers winger fading fast

22 Jun 2013 09:00 Burton Albion star Jacques Maghoma is high on Steven Pressley’s summer recruitment list but Championship clubs are also interested. Coventry City admit that their hopes of securing free-scoring winger Jacques Maghoma are fading fast.

With the present ongoing mess, you have to assume this could well be a regular occurrence this Summer.

Not so sure it's even just a case of competing with the Championship either. I think this whole off the field debacle is going to have a knock on effect in all our transfer dealings.

remember the season we got relegated from the championship ,we played a lot of youngsters throughout the season and it cost us when we needed quality and experience, same thing will happen this season just not sure about the relegation part ,although I wouldn't bank on us being too far off relegation this season
if you was this fellas agent ,would you advise him to join a club in coventrys situation ,would you heck

Agreed. I still think we'll be fielding players who have been told they have no future at the club.

Which in turn is surely going to have an effect upon morale on a cold Tuesday night in Carlisle when you're 1-0 down.

Team spirit is so key to a club's fortunes.

I honestly don't think people realise how much we will struggle this season ,I really dont

In total agreement.

There is a great big cloud hanging over the club and the preparation right from the off is going to be all over the place. Kit, ST's, ground, players going out, players coming in, apathy from supporters etc.

If we make midtable at this rate we will have done really well.

Excuse my ignorance, but does the embargo mean we can't sign ANYONE ... or is it only limited to players currently under contract with another club? Ie. can we still sign out of contract players?

You're right, which is the point Otis was making - missing out on transfer targets because of the current circumstances.

cant sign anyone..usual bollocks quoted by the club.
I agree with other comments...players morale will be low for a whole host of reasons.
There is no money to buy anyone, so its freebies only...trouble is most of the half decent lge 1 players will have gone by the time we can sign anyone.
No doubt TF will blame someone else

Then if you flip the coin and PH4 or the Chinese billionaire bought the club ,what could we buy and where would we finish , it goes to show how much the club and the fans get shafted by politics and ego

If several championship clubs are in for him it's very unlikely we would have got him without the embargo

You don't need to spend much in this league - Doncaster only paid for Paynter the rest were freebies. You just need to get the right balance of players

Well i know that.

Just pointing out that this might well be a regular occurrence this Summer. Us missing out on players and not just because someone higher up has snatched them ahead of us.

I still can't comprehend how we doubled the top two teams and then got doubled by the likes of Shrewsbury. Lots more humiliation ahead next season anyway.

I know, it just shows we've been paying over the odds for inadequate players. We need to get the right blend of players in and we will be ok.

I don't see how we can with our current and likely revenues next season. If the groundshare proceeds relegation is almost nailed on.

It is obvious that we won't be attractive to decent players this season, regardless of the transfer embargo, and if we have anything better than a mediocre season I am sure that will surprise the majority of us.

Regardless of this it would be good to have a large travelling away support that sings from start to finish whatever is being served up on the pitch, even if this includes a good proportion of self piss taking and SISU mocking due to the situation forced on us. I think we are going to need a larger slice of sense of humour and moral fortitude than usual this season. Dunkirk spirit, tin hats and all that ...

You never know . Elvis could have his targets and go "Bang,Bang,Bang" when we are out of embargo:D:claping hands:

You could be right but I'll wait to see how the squad looks come September 1st before I start resigning us to relegation

Our budget is reported at being 2 million this year, whilst a significant reduction on last years 4.25 million it is still probably a top 12 budget in comparison with the rest of the division.

What are those reports based on? To me the crowds at any groundshare will do well to top 4-5,000 which coupled with the ridiculous merchandise situation would seem to put our turnover nearer £1-1.5m based on the lack of season ticket sales. We need to stay at the Ricoh to have a shot at being competitive in my opinion.

I'm not sure what its based on but its the budget that Pressley has been told he has to work with, it was in the telegraph the other day

Saying that, 12 teams in our league averaged less than 5k including Yeovil

Unless there is a novel plan in place or weve got £2M. of Talent to sell were going to trip into Embargo in September.......that is if we ever get out of it first

I suppose that's why its a must for SISU and ACL to stop showing each other the size of their dicks and sort this mess out. 10K x £20 per game brings in a lot more than 3K x £20, unless those 3K are fat alcoholics.
