Just listening to the Fleetwood v Leicester game on 5 Live as I wait to pick my daughter up and the commentators are talking about how ambitious Fleetwood Town are.

£10m new training facility and great ambitions to grow as a club.

Yet here all we talk about is a downward spiral and the fact no-one wants to watch us.

What gets me is that Coventry has a population of 300,000, Fleetwood, just 26,000.

I have forever said that it is all about having a successful team. A successful team results in people wanting to come and watch.

We have to surely be be equipped as a city to have loftier ambitions than the town of Fleetwood. We have the catchment numbers and have the potential to be big again.

The thing is, Houch, some on here say it's because of Sisu, many other though say it's just the club in general and the same with previous owners too.

Whatever it is, the CAPACITY is there for us to be big again surely. £300,000 population plus the likes of Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinckley, Warwick, Leamington, Kenilworth etc.

It has been a never-ending spiral and this is not just about Sisu.

We get a winning team out there on the pitch the opportunity is there to make this club whole again and mean something in the football world.

Promotion this season would be a fantastic start.

Absolutely. Size of city, fans loyalty/support and past football history should put us up there in premiership/championship.
I agree sisu not solely to blame but they have overseen the sustained demise of club since they have been in charge.
For me it’s not just lack of investment but more a seeming distance from fans. They don’t trust us and we don’t trust them.

Agree.

Heard them say today that Fleetwood is very well run club. Have heard it said about other clubs too. No-one in their right mind would have ever said that about the City and that's going back nearly 30 years.

I think what it is otis is that majority of cov fans would easily spend there money and show great support we all know its there but either wont spend their money and support knowing it wont go back into the club to show the ambition that we need to get back up there, the club needs give back to the fans in order for the fans to help the club to be ambitious.

I agree, but still think it is bigger than Sisu.

If Sisu were to leave tomorrow what do you think would be the gate for the next home game? Definite increase I would say, but to no more than 9 or 10 thousand I reckon.

Until we start winning anything there will be no reversal of attendances, its a fact you keep losing and it will spiral down, if we win this league or against stoke the people will come .

Agree. I don't think the turning away from the club is as set in stone as some would make out.

Obviously you are feeling a bit put out by a town like Fleetwood having come up through the local leagues and currently playing a league above us! And I'm with you on that. I was at Fleetwood last year when we were beat by the determination of a side still believing they can climb higher and with a good solid managerial appointment in place. We on the other hand are a former big city club with a strong pedigree, in a spiral from mismanagement top to bottom and finding ourselves lumbering around league 2.
Otis there isn't a doubt about the support this city can enjoy by comparison to the likes of Fleetwood. It is simply a question of picking our club up by the boot straps and putting it on the right path. We have a huge advantage to achieve lofty goals again compared to the likes of Fleetwood - the ability of 300,000 plus population helping to sustain those goals.
It begins with a decent manager and player budget to achieve promotion. Then take that momentum on to another run at league 1 and even the championship and higher. MR's may well achieve the first test this season despite the clubs current owners. With success comes easier negotiations off the field, such as stadium, or selling the club on to smarter owners. Success on the pitch is the prerequisite to driving that comeback forward. We have hit the bottom of our spiral and I see that as a positive compared to a club still falling. Instead of top down we are now looking upwards from the basement. so everything we 'achieve' from here is relative success and that's where the club is right now. We can only look forwards from here. I know we could drop out the league but seriously, even with our owners our budget is one of the highest in this league.
As for this season anything other than promotion would be failure.

No, not put out by Fleetwood being above us. Am put out that this is a town of just 26,000 people but the club is really ambitious and yet here we have nearly all our fans saying we will probably not get into the Premier League in our entire lifetimes!

I know the stadium issue is huge but still, it's like we have just given up as a club.

It depends really on whether you can believe Joys statement that it's nice to build something new.
Fleetwood have zero baggage and investment, If you take her at her word we're at the launch point.

How many times have we discussed this. It’s an accumulation of things and the owners being one of the major factors and the fact is that we will not progress as long as they are here.

Not sure this view is correct. It's about investment when needed and that includes investing in a decent manager. At our current level our owners have invested among the top 6 of this division, so more about what happens on the pitch than who actually owns us as the barometer all the time.

We have discussed this lots of times, but the majority of people on here I would say, say the problem goes way back past Sisu and therefore we can't just say these are bad owners and as soon as we have new ones the fans will come flooding back.

I honestly think it is success that is the key. Of course they are intrinsically linked, but I think if we were flying at the top of the division and winning every week, fans WOULD come back, NOPM or not.

It's amazing what a sniff of success can bring.

Winning football would get MORE fans coming back but I know lots more who will not come back while Sisu are here. I think most fans know people who have said that aswell.

You see, I doubt their stamina to do so. I reckon if we were top of the league like Luton and beating teams, scoring 4, 5, or 6 goals week in week out, they WOULD come back.

It totally suits the NOPM model while we struggle.

Fleetwood, they can invest as much money as they like they have a upper limit how big they can be.

The sky is our limit with right investment in this club.

We have something they dont have a FANBASE. Its going to take some awakening. But it will.

Not any time soon, that is the problem the FANBASE you talk about is ebbing away and we need to target a new one.

A.F.C. Fylde have also thrown huge amounts of money at getting league status so it's not out of the question that whole area could end up with 3 professional teams within 10miles of each other

Fylde is a borough and not really a single place most of the population are either part of greater Blackpool or Preston, the team AFC Fylde play in Wesham and that only has 3500 people even if you include Kirkham the other half of the catchment area its only just 10k

I had to explain to a man behind me in the queue how to fold his printed ticket and put it in the bar code reader. He then said he was a former ST holder who wouldn't give his money to SISU. So obviously supporters can be attracted back given the right circumstances

Okay. I did know it was a borough, as they mentioned it on 5Live yesterday, but didn't know Fylde itself was so small.

I wouldn't say any of the Fylde coast teams are. Fylde and Fleetwood success is down to a sugar daddy and is completely unsustainable, particularly considering the attraction of a myriad bigger teams in what is traditionally Lancashire.
