Just got home after work and put on SNN on the TV

Bury and Bolton on brink of liquidation and Manchester United loaning out Sanchez for £11 million for the season. Absolute madness and if something is not put in place to stop the top 10 or 15 teams in Europe spending ridiculously mind blowing sums with out supporting the EFL teams then the professional league pyramid as we know it will be finished in 5 years.

Because they knew Bury was insolvent. Has been for 3 to 4 years

I know as a business decision it'd have been awful. But why are they now allowing the club they own to use big budgets for that level to get promoted if they've seen the problems it causes at a club supposedly dear to their hearts?

Don’t really see what business it is for people to be pointing the fingers at Premier League clubs/players for the mismanagement of clubs like Bury/Bolton etc. Clubs that have overspent and unfortunately have now come unstuck and as usual the fans will now carry the can.
Not really the Premier Leagues fault is it?

Modern football. I also don’t bother asking people I’ve just met (in my work, not just random strangers) who they support anymore. It’s boring. It’s either Liverpool or Utd.

Re: the Neville brothers. Not sure you can go round blaming them for not putting money in. It is a disgrace what’s happened to Bury, but it doesn’t fall on them to save the club. Also, they couldn’t now due to conflict of interest.

Re: not the PL’s fault. Directly - no. But the obscene money that everyone wants a slice of is the dangling carrot isn’t it. Clubs trying to compete to get there or near and screwing up. Obviously, those in charge of those clubs are completely at fault, first and foremost.

Yes absolutely. I have far more respect and time for those who tell me they support Rochdale or Crawley but can’t follow them every week since they have moved to the midlands rather than those who tell me they are lifelong united or liverpool fans but have yet to watch a live game at a football ground.

Football expert on this morning saying that rumours are they were paying some players 10K a week in the recent past to attract them to the club. Remember they went through that phase a couple of years back of signing everyone, Leon Clarke, Chris Eagles, etc. Unsustainable. That is exactly what happened to us, yes it was great seeing McAllister, Keane and Dublin in a city shirt but ultimately the wages we were paying them was the catalyst to where we find ourselves today.

society for you

all of us could help those in need if we gave 10 or 15% of our wages each month. but how many do? most will lie and say they need every single penny but still treat themselves etc

dont get me wrong you are 100% right like, but thats world full stop, no one likes to spend own money to help consistently for most part.

Firstly, they are 2 of 6 people involved in the takeover and only own 10% each. Do you think the investment required for just the 2 brothers to buy 100% of league one Bury would be the same as buying 20% of an 8th tier club?

Secondly, were Bury even available to buy in 2014?

The whole vanity project thing annoys me. Why is Salford a vanity project but Bury wouldn't be? Because Bury are more established? Would it still be a vanity project if people didn't know who these guys are. It's just jealousy.

I agree that the Premier League is not directly responsible for the demise of Bury but was making the point regarding the enormous gulf and madness of a player like Sanchez costing £11 million for a one season loan.
Bury`s demise is down to its last owner chasing a dream with money he never had at his disposal and the EFL letting it happen and its current owner Steve Dale asset stripping and again the EFL letting it happen.

doesnt really change things but its not an 11m loan

4 or 5m loan plus just under half his wages, even hearing dry loan plus the 40% 5m wages

Here's a suggestion ... what if Sky and their like actually made a TV deal with the EFL to show more lower league matches and fewer Prem, giving the money to the EFL clubs to enable them to be sustainable? The media's obsession with the Prem makes my skin crawl, e.g. on the first day of the season. It's like the EFL doesn't exist. No mention of the opening day of the EFL season, while they're busy wanking over the pointless Charity Shield!

so the basis for a team in the premier league for TV money alone is around £100m. Up to around £150m at the top end
Approx another £250m goes out in terms of parachute payments

The total for the other 65 clubs is around £100m

If the premier league could share maybe another 10% of that money - That would be worth around £4m a year per football league club
or even £3m per football league club and a further £80m or so passed into non league

in the long run, this investment would benefit the premier league teams, as one reason the PL is so successful is because of the pyramid beneath
This reallocation would mean every league club could survive on TV money and gate receipts + Other commercial income
We would also have a much stronger non- league system and in the long run a stronger England team. No pyramid = fewer English players coming through

However it would mean only receiving £80m for finishing bottom instead of £100m
The current total payment for League 1 and 2 is £27m!!
