The team was on the beach long before he joined.I get they were in a state, but they still ahd a decent team and 1 win in 11 games is shocking. Defensively they were a shambles.
Anyone with less than a couple of seasons’ experience as a manager is a huge risk, especially if they don’t have any coaching experience at a high level.
I don’t think anyone would be suggesting Keane if he hadn’t played for us before, and I don’t think sentiment should play that much into our hiring decisions.
I think this is the first time that a manager from the Israeli Premier League has been on anyone’s radar. No other reason for it other than late 90s nostalgia.
Yeah they were pretty good that year, you don't finish top 4 without being a decent team.Hahaha I rate that!
Was Chelsea’s team that season particularly good? I recall him blooding through a lot of youngsters (Mount, James, Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham) and that season was a ‘free hit’ for Chelsea and they overperformed.
The Championship is probably Lampard’s level so I don’t think it would be a terrible appointment to be honest. The only candidates that would excite me would be Moyes, Potter or Cooper (assuming he became available) and the first 2 names are just not realistic and the other is employed (for now).
Nails it. This has just reinforced how moronic it was to get rid of him. At the absolute minimum, not to give him until the new year.
I think we know that it was nothing to do with results, Doug 'The Ego' King, wants to be the main man. He wants to modernise the structure (that was maybe overly reliant on Robins) which has brought us all the success of the last 7 years. Replaced with one that will see us like every other club, replacing their "head coach" every 12 months. Why would anyone coming in think DK will stand by them at the first sign of trouble?
The point about the manager odds, seeing that list compared to Robins just depresses me.

Meh... Leicester had as good of a team at that pointWell no but it was a decent side View attachment 39407
Fair enough , anyway lampard 4/11 nowMeh... Leicester had as good of a team at that point
Absolutely. A random guy who played for us 25 years ago for 30 odd games. It's ridiculous. I hope this is just bullshit and not King thinking all will be forgiven by employing a Sky Blue "legend" as Mark's replacement.
Fair enough , anyway lampard 4/11 now
MoreIs that more or less likely?
Have they shortened?Fair enough , anyway lampard 4/11 now
Means you have to put 11 pound on to win 4 pound wheras before you had to put 9 on to win 4Have they shortened?
Have they shortened?
Yes big money is on from will kingAlso, your local lad sticking £5 accies on isn’t backing this to win £2.
You’d have to imagine someone is putting meatier bets on for this to continue to shorten and that usually comes with some form of inside knowledge.

Yeah, better look out for a big bet from someone called Christine, with a strong Northern Irish accentAlso, your local lad sticking £5 accies on isn’t backing this to win £2.

No mate, the multi billion pound bookies are just winging it, apparently. Also, your local lad sticking £5 accies on isn’t backing this to win £2.

I thought Robins was untouchable here
A lot of those players really came to the fore under Lampard to be fair. I’m not so sure many people would’ve fancied Mount to emerge as a key player for a Top 4 team one season after playing in the Championship. It was pretty good the squad:
Kepa
Rudiger
Marcus Alonso
Christiansen
Jorginho
Kante
Barkley
Willian
Pedro
Zouma
Kovavic
Giroud
Pulisic
Batshuayi
Azpilicueta
Emersen
Then you add in the young talent you mention, that's a hell of a good squad.
The noise here is that he's joining us rather than Roma but I think it's based on the recent Mirror article more than anything else.
Would 1000 people bet that kind of money on the new Coventry manager without having some kind of insight or knowledge of the situation?
being a club where the manager had almost started to feel like “one of us”.
That same group of players finished 3rd the previous season, albeit with Hazard and LuizA lot of those players really came to the fore under Lampard to be fair. It’s the problem looking at teams retrospectively, a lot of players have developed since that point in time.
The consensus that year was that Lampard performed a miracle that season. Reports after he brought new players in the season after basically didn’t rate Lampard tactically. Which, ironically, is something close to what probably happened with Robins from 2023/24 to 2024/25.
Hazard was ridiculous that season mind and to lose him was massiveThat same group of players finished 3rd the previous season, albeit with Hazard and Luiz
He's been linked with Roma before MR was even sacked. He’ll have my backing if it’s him, but I have to confess that it cheapens the whole thing if we’re his second choice and he was looking for other jobs too. That might be assumption and presumption, I hold my hands up, but it’s just another way that we no longer have stability and we’re more of a ‘normal’ club, as opposed to being a club where the manager had almost started to feel like “one of us”.
Hazard was a player of the season or thereabouts, right? The other teams around Chelsea would’ve strengthened their teams and Chelsea were under a transfer embargo. That same group of players finished 3rd the previous season, albeit with Hazard and Luiz
Yes he was as good that season, but the ways being talked about is he guided a mid table mediocre side to the dizzy heights of 4th place. That's a bloody good squad, and they brought Kovavic in for £40m before the embargo was placed on them.Hazard was ridiculous that season mind and to lose him was massive
If you care to remember that Europa League final against Arsenal which was Hazard's final game in a Chelsea top he basically beat them on his own
The 4th finish was par. His work at Derby given his squad was parHazard was a player of the season or thereabouts, right? The other teams around Chelsea would’ve strengthened their teams and Chelsea were under a transfer embargo.
In any which case, finishing in the Top 4 is still a massive achievement. The top teams can be notoriously difficult to manage so you’ve got to give Lampard his dues for managing that. Again, we’re a Championship team and we’re not going to get another manager with that his CV.
Look at the bookies, do the other managers have better achievements than Lampard? I don’t think so pragmatically, he’s probably the best candidate out there.
Lampard Odds have shortened slightly - to it being more likely
