You in the 1900’s? Fair play. Through study? Practice? Guessing both!
I just play for fun and have never studied openings, read any books etc but managed to drag myself up to the high 1500’s but with a nose bleed.
Count me in for a game!

Inside the world of Coventry's real life Queen's Gambit
Coventry's spring chess season has kicked off - and despite Covid-19, is set to be filled with competition and rivalrywww.coventrytelegraph.net
Great to see Colin Green getting a mention in the article.
Lad went to the coventry chess academy for a few years. Some truly phenomenal kids playing in coventryI do know Mr Chiu somewhat well, and can vouch for his playing ‘skill’ having been there when he lost a league game to a 7 year old

Would love him to push it again. He just wasn’t quite as good as he hoped to be at the game. Interestingly he still hasn’t ever beaten me. I’m not very good and I think he’s better than me.Indeed been working with him for years. Worked with your lad many times!

It was the online casinos for me more than sport, but it all works the same. I don’t think I could allow myself even a fiver to be honest
100%. It's too easy to change limits and carry on spending ££ every few seconds.
At least football betting is £5/£10 for a certain amount of time of enjoyment. i.e 90 mins or an afternoon acca.
Now into the low 1600’s and a 6 month personal best. You in the 1900’s? Fair play. Through study? Practice? Guessing both!

Have to say the lockdown has given me the opportunity to play more.
Should really put some effort into actually studying the game.

I still play a fair amount of Chess. In my early to mid-teens played in the local league against teams from all over Nuneaton/Cov/Western Birmingham.
Like most things, it dropped off, but with the huge rise in online sites i've started playing regularly again.
My rating seems to correspond with time limits on the games... 1minute games i'm only about 1300, 3 & 5 minute games about 1550... 10 minute games just over 1600, and anything longer i'm about 1800.
Which i guess highlights that i've still got a reasonable brain for the game, but put the pressure of time on, and it all falls apart!!
You’re better off not playing the short time control stuff anyway, it’s no good for improving. You’ll get better at the short stuff naturally by being a better player in the first place
It's more a case of time. I enjoy tournament play rather than one-off matches... played a 20-game tourney on saturday, and even at 3 minute (+1 sec) games it was nearly 3hrs.
