Wasn’t that on affordability grounds though which at that time was pretty dire didn’t Overson eventually came forward and sponsored the Acadamy still might do there’s so much water, sludge and shite gone under that bridge it’s difficult to remember it all in order.
SISU / Ranson / Hoffman went sour on each other the day Westwood refused to sign a new contract. SISU “worked out” that their (guess) £20m investments (players) could actually walk out for nothing. They got Ken in to secure the contracts of Bell etc. mad times, why not pay the Higgs back for their half share instead of wanging cash on Eastwood and the likes?
Some crazy decisions by Ranson: getting rid of Dowie to bring in Coleman was quite mad too. Not sure who was pulling the strings but I don’t think it was GH at the time.
My point still stands about Hoff:
He was on the scene during crazy times but during our darkest days (admin, Sixfields) was still willing to put his time / effort / possibly some financial risk into keeping the club from spiralling further.
SISU have been lucky. Their “investment” probably stacks up now (value of club based on assets plus a mutiple of potential current EBITDA v their actual investment (hard cash / risk not their strange share swaps)). They have Robins to thank for that. Maybe Boddy a bit too. Hope they have a good Xmas bonus this year.
