Legends Day tomorrow. And my favourite ever City player George Hudson will be at the game. Older fans will know all about the "HUD" as he was a goal scoring machine, could score with his head and feet, and was as hard as nails too. We've had some great strikers over the years, But for me George Hudson is my number one and was the complete centre forward.
Who else is their top striker to have worn the sky blue ?

Dublin. Had his name on the back of my shirt as a kid and he held my hand and walked me out as a mascot against Villa.

We have had lots of good Centre forwards over the years. Gould,Fergie and Dublin were all favourites of mine. I thought Neil Martin was a really good player too, exceptional in the air. My overall favourite would be Ian Wallace. I only saw Hudson play for Tranmere against us. Do you think he would have cut it in the First division?

It’s out of Marlon King, McSheffrey, Wilson or McNulty for me.

Wilson has to take it because he’s doing the business even in the Prem. I’m glad for him, I doubted him big time.

I loved him here. Didn't we get him the same time as Tommy Hutch?

Hudson would definetly have cut it in the top flight in my opinion. I was surprised he never played at a higher level.

I was at that game and my dad said watch the HUD destroy us and in the replay he did.
You can't say Hill was wrong to let him go though as he didn't set the world alight with Northampton in Division one.
I remember him getting a great reception.
The name George Hudson evokes memories of the Sky Blues in their golden years and my father in his peak years.
These are the days when I wish I was in Coventry rather than Riyadh.

Cant remember Cross for us, as was too young, but remember the bugger scoring against us for West Ham.

Have been lucky to see some good strikers from the 80's onwards, favourite has to be Regis, but also enjoyed watching Garry Thompson, Terry Gibson, David Speedie, before the likes of Dublin, Huckerby, Whelan and Keane.

Ah, just checked the timing of his transfer and it would have been at the same or even a lower level!
Correct rattles!
Before my time but have heard and read over the years and the opinion is a landslide as to him playing at a higher level.

Jim Brown will confirm but there is a game available via you tube etc where we beat Man City 3-2 - for one of Hutch and Stein, I am sure it was their debut and for the other maybe their second game.. My old man walked me around to in front of the main stand where I think we saw Billy Wright interviewing varying players etc afterwards. Agree stein was a great player - probably go for Wallace though.

Before Hudson we had Terry Bly. My late father waxed lyrical about him. Jimmy Hill replaced Bly with the HUD and got slated for it, but he got it correct. But then he got rid of Hudson and put a young Bobby Gould in his place. Bloody hell Jimmy Hill knew his stuff !

In a pub last year where I live in Whitefield (In between Manchester and Bury) and spoke to someone. Told him I was Coventry City supporter. " Oh yes , there is a guy round here who used to play for them, George Hudson".
To be honest before my time but my brother fondly remembers him.

Special mention also Brian Roberts. Not exactly best player in world but nice guy. Played him at table tennis once.

The thing with Stein, he was a very unselfish player and could have scored more goals for himself. One of my all time favourite forwards along with Neil Martin

My first ever league game was at home to Halifax Town, 6 April, 1963. City won 5-4 and George Hudson scored a hat trick on his debut. No wonder I was hooked! He was a hero, but going back to that era, Bobby Gould was a hero to every young Cov kid, and I also thought that Neil Martin was a very good, intelligent player.

The ones I quoted are probably the best I've seen. I'm 23 and haven't seen us play in the Prem once! I'm aware I've missed out on legends such as; Regis, Dublin, Huckerby, Houchen, Speedie, Hudson, Quinn etc. ... I may as well say Clarrie Bourton is the best ever!
