Hi all

I am a born again Sky Blue Fan , have struggled last couple of years to keep the faith - though I did manage a few matches last season (Gillingham away was one such game - where we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory etc)

I have tried to pretend that the demise of our great club doesn't bother me but seems once its in your blood unfortunately it keeps tugging at the heartstrings anyway............

Unfortunately I am old enough to remember drinking in Silver Sword before staggering up Hillfields to join the West End at Highfield Road, and miss those days

I have now decided to try yet again so need some advice from regular Ricoh attendees

I plan to get to travel to the Wigan game on August 8th, but want to have some pre-match drinks near the Ricoh where there is some pre match atmosphere, singing the sky blue song, Twist & Shout etc.

What is the best place to have pre match drinks with other loud mouthed City Fans?

I'm not sure such a venue exists anymore for raucous debauchery. Having the stuffing knocked out of everyone for so long has made the fanbase a bit more demure and pessimistic at home games. Plenty of pubs for a bite to eat and a few beers and a chat ?!

Atmosphere wise i'm struggling to think of anywhere decent near the ground, I used to go in cherrytree, that was ok but havent been in there for a season or so, a few fans use the wheatsheef, casino is always busy but the lager is shite! With the new train station nearly up and running it'll be a decent shout to have a drink in the town and jump on the train, however the station wont be up and running by the wigan game.

Sadly we barely get singing during the game, let alone before it at the moment. I go to the casino

As others have said, no real pubs for singing etc but you could try The Greyhound at Hawkesbury Junction and then take a walk down the canal to The Ricoh.

I went to Arsenal away in League cup and there was such good atmosphere before match (in away pub) and at half time in emirates bar (Twist & Shout etc), thats what I want for my 'Ricoh Experience' - am I Delusional? - does such a place exist somewhere in Coventry?

I can cope with a dull match as long as we win and I have some fun beforehand with other like-minded City Faithful

The Wheatchief is probably your best bet being an opening day fixture should be busy and sometimes gets abit rowdy / noisy, depending on the type of fixture.

Seemed to die off abit though towards the end of the season.

Shame really all the pubs in around the ground are all fairly the same, not much of an atmosphere now unless its a derby game / rivalry between fans kind of game.

Once the station is open , I imagine it will affect trade in the pubs around the ground as I imagine most will want to drink in the town beforehand

I am afraid we are not at HR anymore and this type of venue does not exist for home games, away we usually do congregate on the one pub close by and the atmospheres can be very very good no matter where we go.

In a word - yes. Away games tend to be more lively as its a smaller group who tend to stick together with a fair chunk hitting the beer early. Home games are a much more sanitised experience. DOn't think that's just us to be honest, think its just the way football has gone in general.

OK thanks for the advice, think I will try Cherry Tree not been there before - usually use Wheatsheaf when driving, but this time coming up on train (£13.00 each way from Hastings to Cov cant be bad !!)

I am gong for a 2-1 Cov Win btw - lets be optimistic

Lets hope its the start of the revival, got real expectations now we got a good strong manager in charge to hopefully stand up the the clowns that own the club.

The Wheatsheaf is the place to be...if you are brave enough! Lol!

I suggest using the pub across the road - or the alleyway - for a p1ss though.
