If we get the funding and backing for the battery factory then that could be huge IMO.
Potentially 4K new jobs, would attract a lot of new talent to the area, tie in nicely with the automotive industry and link in very well with the local universities.
However, true Cov style an idea to fill an empty building with something that isn’t a pound shop or Weatherspoons seems to have gone down like a lead balloon in the ‘so called’ City of Culture.
I honestly believe that the local population has a large part in keeping this city in the doldrums. We only do lead balloons around here. Genuinely can’t think of a single thing that’s had a positive reaction. Which sadly just means all criticism can be safely ignored.
The plans for Ikea are very exciting, the responses on the Telegraph report are however disappointing. A chance for a real attraction and something people would visit the city before and people are moaning its not being something like a trampoline centre! I think they need to knock some buildings down to open up access to the city centre from Ikea / Skydome side. You need to pull people into the city centre not block it off.
Also welcome the battery factory, although not sure the local infrastructure will cope with the number of people they are claiming it will employ travelling in and out every day. However doesn't sit well with me that the owners have been allowed to deliberately run the airport into the ground, with no action from the council, and will now claim the airport isn't viable so it can be turned into an industrial site no doubt making them a small fortune in the process.
The battery factory is exiting for that side of the city.
The massive arts hub, is it actually going to happen though?
The fact the Arts Council are involved and there's city of culture funding available makes me more hopeful than when we usually see artists impressions in the Telegraph that never get mentioned again. The massive arts hub, is it actually going to happen though?
Good news on both fronts, the factory will be great for the city, loads of new jobs etc.
The art thing isn't really anything I have interest in but if it brings people into the city spending money I'm all for it.
I think they should knock down that whole corner of the city centre by Argos (arcade?), All the way down to new look, take out the market and go all the way across to the new swimming pool. Have a massive open space with fun fairs, food stalls, play ground etc.
I don't think that's too far away from what they've actually got planned.
Think there are some new buildings going in though rather than being totally open.
Good, If that's the case, I hope they don't put some big ugly buildings similar to the skydome. Keep everything nice and light and open and small, restaurants, cafes, the high street is dead so no need for new retail outlets
Seems nobody bothered to tell the Airport staff or any of the tenants that they were planning to build a factory on the airport and they would all be losing their jobs / premises. Sounds about par for the course with the way the airport has been run.
Could make my commute to work interesting. Let's hope this home working thing stays in place.I went past there just before Christmas for the first time in ages and there's already loads of work going on and I'm sure there's a building with Giga factory signage on.
They've also put an island which will allow cars to take a new slip road down to where they're developing.
I don’t get people who are negative about it.Positive news
Needs a groan emoticon!I don’t get people who are negative about it.

they're putting a big building in the middle called the pavilion, I think what you were suggesting was to keep it open, looking at the plan I think I would prefer that myself but it said there going to use it for 'independent initiatives' which could be a good thing

I don't really see the point of the pavilion. There's so many empty buildings in the city centre that could be used for the same purpose and it seems odd to knock buildings down to open things up to then put another building in that blocks everything back off.they're putting a big building in the middle called the pavilion, I think what you were suggesting was to keep it open
I thought the official line was actually "Come to Coventry and be stunned."and the winner of the City of culture slogan is...................
Not impressed, Looks like a half-arsed cathedral lanes which they've shoe horned in.
They're just being down to earth.Stop being so negative about people that are negative. It’s so negative.
