Good luck to you HH. My old man still lives on the Island, and he has some proper horror stories about his experiences at St Mary's. Court cases and all sorts.Been waiting 6 years now, for a full knee replacement. At last I have a date for surgery! 30th March. Just 6 weeks away! Only trouble is, they don't do this type of procedure at Worcester Royal so I have to travel to Alexander Hospital in Redditch - 34½ miles away! Worcester Royal is only just over 10 miles away. And I have to be there for 7am!! Still the middle of the night for me! Thankfully, I have someone who is willing to take me and bring me back a day or so later.
I'll be laid up for roughly 4-6 weeks so no marathons planned!
All I'll say on the matter is "Up yours, St Mary's, Isle of Wight!!" for cocking up my admission 4 years ago!
34 and half miles away? You got some sort of Northampton, Sixfields fixation thing going on there?Been waiting 6 years now, for a full knee replacement. At last I have a date for surgery! 30th March. Give the Isle of Wight a wave for me! Miss the old place!Congrats!
Coincidentally I’m in Pompey at the moment trying to care for my mum who had her knee op last weekend…my dad had his a few months ago. He’s generally up and about. I’d advise investing in a reclining chair if you haven’t already got one…or a chair with hard arms for lifting yourself up.
Try and make sure they give you a Zimmer frame type walker too. My mum’s fairly motoring around the place on that.
My other advice is don’t come and live with my parents for anything more than a fleeting moment. Christ almighty! I could’ve written a thesis in the “things that annoy you thread’ and I’ve only been here 4 days.
Break a leg!
Mrs Dactyl has joined me now and we’re contemplating a trip across on the hovercraft at some point.Give the Isle of Wight a wave for me! Miss the old place!
Still a bit concerned about having it done though, Wingy. It's my dicky ticker I'm worried about. Just hope it will stand up to the trauma. This is properly back of the que stuff to H , know of so many who have been done over the last year but anyhow all the best glad you'll get there in the end.
I still have my "Hover Travel" card in my wallet! As a resident, you get slightly cheaper tickets. I keep hold of it coz, you never know......Mrs Dactyl has joined me now and we’re contemplating a trip across on the hovercraft at some point.
It’s about 20 years since I’ve been there. If we go I’ll ask around about you!

Don't stress about that, HH. The surgery team will be well aware of any heart problems you have and will closely monitor you before, during and after the operation. Good luck.Still a bit concerned about having it done though, Wingy. It's my dicky ticker I'm worried about. Just hope it will stand up to the trauma.
had both hips done in the last 5 months, and same as you, with a dodgy ticker. The aneasthetist was all over that beforehand, and was happy to go ahead. Had to stop certain tablets for a few days before and after, but other than that, all was ok.Still a bit concerned about having it done though, Wingy. It's my dicky ticker I'm worried about. Thanks OSB. That really helps. It was just that when I should have had the op back in 2018, the surgeon at St Mary's on the IoW insisted that there would be a bed readily available on the ICU ward and he would have a heart specialist standing by. Really put me at ease - Not!had both hips done in the last 5 months, and same as you, with a dodgy ticker. The anaesthetist was all over that beforehand, and was happy to go ahead. my mate has been waiting for a knee op for 2 years, and got a call Monday with a date in a couple of weeks time to have it done. He has a dodgy ticker too, lots of tests to determine if they will go ahead, and all good.
... and their bed back! The criteria for escaping after the op is using crutches and navigating stairs with the physio. All being well that should be ok after a couple of days. They give you minimal bed rest now as they want the joint moving asap.
@covmark - Whereabouts on the island is your dad, Mark? We lived in Totland Bay for the first couple of years then moved to Newport for the last 6 years we were there. Really miss the place.Good luck to you HH. My old man still lives on the Island, and he has some proper horror stories about his experiences at St Mary's. Court cases and all sorts.
Hope all goes well mate.

Sorry to hear about your F-i-L, Kneeza. It would have been my dad's 105th birthday this March (and my mum's 100th in July). Makes me feel bloody ancient! I remember my lovely Nan who was born in 1899. I was 15 when she passed away. As for the hospitals, I'm just glad to be having the surgery at long last. I had huge disappointments in the past with St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight, so after six years, I'm kinda looking forward to it!We spent quite a lot of time travelling to both the Worcester and Redditch hospitals to see my father-in-law (who lived in Evesham). Poor old bugger missed his century early in 2020 by about three weeks. At least both the hospitals seemed to look after him well, so hopefully you'll be ok. Best of luck with it all anyway.
The old man is in Yarmouth. I lived near Colwell Bay. Worked at the Waterfront down Totland for a while. Had a few piss ups at the Broadway too@covmark - Whereabouts on the island is your dad, Mark? The Waterfront was my local watering hole while in Totland. Only went inti the Braodway a couple of times though. It was also the local post office, which was handy! The old man is in Yarmouth.
