Not standing for reelection in June. Part of the 'seventy's plenty' initiative.

Not sure he was suited anyway CJ.
Too brash and lacking in the diplomatic stakes IMO. Caught a flash of something in the news on the radio this afternoon but not fully informed.
Is It in reaction to some edict from whoever (not sure who) that the format or processes of the FA are set for change?

Once he turns 70 he has to stand down. Always struck me as a 'man of the people' type bloke. There is a serious problem with football in our country and a major shake up is needed. He had ideas and he got criticised for them. Those ideas may not have been practical or easily implemented but at least he had ideas. Can't remember anyone else that's been in charge of the FA, an organisation full of dinosaurs who seemed so approachable and wasn't afraid to put his head above the parapet.

The game and facilities for grass roots football in this country is shocking and too many children would rather play computer games and get fat.

I lived in a village in the middle of nowhere in the mountains in Trentino, Italy for 3 months. It was in the middle of nowhere, yet in the centre they had an immaculately kept full sized football pitch that anyone could use.

Far to many administrators taking massive salaries as they seem to think they deserve more because they are involved in football, also roles like the England manager is way overpaid.

Disappointing to hear, he seemed like someone who was looking at options to improve the England team and the poor situation we are in from a growth perspective. The biggest issue is that the PL has more power and voice than the FA now, until that balance has been redressed the FA will always be weak

I agree. However if that had been in the middle of most English towns/cities/villages or other areas of Italy like Milan or Bologna it would look great for about a week. After that point it would have a recently torched Nova in the centre circle and doughnuts from that Nova in both 18 yard boxes.

The problem is that PL and the PL clubs hold the ace's and no matter what anyone's good intentions are the Pl would rather see Rooney get £1/2m a week than put a 3G pitch in a city for kids and the public to use.
The Junior team I run haven't played since beginning of December as the pitches in the main are waterlogged still. We could use the Alan higgs 3g but who in their right mind is going to pay £100 to get a junior game on?
There needs to be loads more investment in grass roots but whilst the FA throw the odd few million here and there its nothing to the money washing around at the top of the game.
Decent money will never be distributed around whilst the FA and the PL remain as 2 separate parties.

Spot on. The authorities in this country prefer to allow the billions of Sky revenue to be wasted on inflated transfer fees and wages for players (many of whom are foreign - not saying that in any sort of xenophobic sense, more in that it does nothing for football in this country in the short or long term)
