Anyone else gone through the motions with it?
Couldnt stand it for years but as my children grow up i really enjoy seeing them get dressed up and 'scary' for parties or trick or treating. Always make sure only the houses with pumpkins or decorations outside are knocked.

Thoughts, American shite that's a waste of time or a lovely event for the kids?

Have seen some people go way over their top with the houses. Like it's a competition.

It's great for the little kids but when there's teenagers or massive crowds of 40-50 people going round together they can fuck off.

We’re coming out the other side now as the kids are getting older. Still decorated the house like mad and trick or treating but we normally have a party and full house before hand but we haven’t done that this year.

I'm fine with it all myself.
I enjoyed going trick or treating when I was a kid and had fun taking my daughter out trick or treating when she was younger too.
I'm happy to keep it all going for others so brought £20 worth of bits out of the pound shop today and have setup lights in pumpkins outside the house.

It's all good fun for the kids

Just got in. It’s my eldest’s (9) favourite festival so we’ve done pumpkin carving and “scary” movies last weekend and just been out trick or treating. Round here it seems enough people go for it that you can stick to houses with decorations and not bother those who aren’t up for it. Which seems a good compromise.

Fifteen year olds in a tracksuit and a Jason mask can get in the bin though. Pathetic.

Used to enjoy it when my daughter was younger, but she is now 15, so we just watched a scary movie instead. We watched Us, which we both really enjoyed.

I like it when people go all out. We don’t do enough celebrations in this country, all a bit po faced. I like Diwali and Bonfire Night and Christmas as well.

Wish we had something in the summer like a carnival or proper St George’s/May Day celebrations TBH.

It’s an interesting and fun holiday/tradition/thing but not keen on getting as massively into as the Americans and I find trick or treating crass and weird. Of course when it’s an adorable toddler being led around by their parents it’s really sweet, not so much teenagers demanding stuff.

Decorating the outside of the house and getting into competitions with the neighbours is just silly. Find it a bit odd that a lot of women make it all about dressing sexy as well.

Maybe I don’t like it after all...

Had an egg smack against my window earlier. Could be because I never answered the door to kids ? Then again better than a brick !

I’m am the archetypal grumpy old man so no no and thrice no - a few years ago a bunch of teenage boys were round knocking on the doors - I offered them bananas and told them to get real - I think the penny dropped - pure American commercialisation - we have been brainwashed

I live in Bell Green by the shops. Kids/youths use Halloween and Bonfire Night as an excuse to run amok. Waste of time going out to them as they run off, or the older ones act like gangsters and stand their ground.

Worst night of the year. Although it’s a lot quieter where I live now and people only go to the houses that are decorated.

We always do that and you would think that’s a fairly safe system but last year we knocked on a door of a decorated house and got told to go away and stop annoying people. Weirdo’s.

Same here. Though I do live in posh Keresley.

Never had a problem ever with trick or treaters to be honest. Not once. Usually just small kids coming round with their parents and that's it.

Glorified begging.

Not got any kids yet but going to try and restrict it to Halloween parties only (I think the dressing up aspect is a laugh) and not knocking strangers doors for sweets.

Fortunately our dog ran and barked at the friend of the main culprit in our road a year or so ago so we were undisturbed - he was provoked by a pink bicycle and flappy gloves and they seem to remember this event

I find adults getting excited about going to a Halloween party quite disturbing. I suppose if you're going to dress up as a witch or ghost or Frankenstein, etc, that's OK, but adopting the American approach of treating simply as a general fancy-dress party makes me want to puke!
And as for people having fireworks on Halloween - fuck RIGHT off. Bonfire Night is next Tuesday, though most of the parties will be over the weekend, which is acceptable if the 5th is a school night.

Mine were the same, but gang mentality meant we simply went round the streets being dicks to all and sundry. Basically used as an excuse for mindless vandalism. Not proud of it, but it was 30 years ago now.

Beat me to it glorified beggingI have kids I asked them not to go out but they wanted to so when I went to work they went out.

Are you also against Christmas Carrolling and penny for the guy?

I see it as a net neutral TBH. I buy two or three big bags of sweets that get handed out and that’s roughly equal to what my kids get.

Our parents always used to send us down the shop with a few quid to get the sweets we actually wanted because they saw trick or treating as begging.

Mrs made me go pumpkin picking then told me I had to carve it, even though I didn’t want one. Now it’s sat rotting in the garage. The pumpkin that is.

I live in an upscale area so the kids from all the outlying districts get driven here in huge SUVs and swarm out to take advantage of what they think will be sweeter pickings than their own neighbourhood.
I stayed at work late, did shopping on the way back, and got home after it was all over.
My daughter went to a Halloween party, spent a fortune on a special dress, mask and nake-up.
