Nonsense. King has said he wants to build a squad that can compete at the top end of this league in and around the playoffs.
I'm with everyone else that I would do everything we can to keep Hamer. But we do have to have a wage structure at the club. And we do need it to be sustainable.
Because it’s easy for us to say it's just 1 player and arguably our best player. But it will have a knock on effect on the wages expected fromthe rest of our current squad as well as new signings that come in.
It'd undoubtedly be a challenge. Would depend how many other players came in to improve as a whole. Viveash at least seems tactically astute to adjust to the players at the club too.Losing Vic and Hamer would imo put the club in serious trouble next season, you just cannot take that amount of goal contributions out of a team in one go.

On top of thatIf you got the Premier League Package, then you probably did.
This is what I’ve been saying - you can’t ask for top 6 regularly if we’re not matching the teams in the top 10 without parachute payments. Why? If anyone says they want what Hamer is on you say then have the impact he does. It’s £20k at top end Championship level. It’s not significantly out of whack with the going rate. Rumour was its what we were paying Palmer last season as part of his transfer. New signings is completely different. This is Gus’ third contract with us, he’s a known entity who has proven his worth.
If King wants to compete at the top end he has to finance top end wages. We aren’t talking Burnley level, but we should be in the same market as the likes of Boro and Blackburn for example.
If we can’t afford £20k/wk for a player of his calibre the wage structure needs changing. If we had a team of Hamers we’d win the league at a canter. It’s not every day a player of that quality wants to stay. And if it was that would be great.
Has it been confirmed that 20k/wk will do it? I agree, that it doesn't seem out of the realms of possibility of what we should be paying our top talent. "Breaking the bank" as I've heard people mention, would be foolish.
Now we are going for better standard of players there is a good chance that they'll want clauses to match the top earners. We do need to have a strict wage budget because before you know it, in a few years time we could end up with a team of Waghorns.

So is this another “Watch this space” situation, or does Hamer not let the info slip til after Eastenders has finished?I will try and find out today

Dunno about being in the same market as them all the time. Agree that Hamer's a known quantity and worth the stretch, but we can't afford more than a few at that rate. Freebies? Fine. We're not going to pay seven figures for someone and pay them loads each week. Too much of a jump to expect. Why? If anyone says they want what Hamer is on you say then have the impact he does. BINGOI'll say it now and ready to be shot at if we can't keep Gus, relegation battle ahead. We are not going out and buying top players so need to keep the ones we have. Our big chance of promotion was last season when all the so called top sides of the division were shit ( bit like when Fester won Premier league)Fingers crossed I'm totally wrong but this season will be really tough as all the other sides will strengthen.

I agree with you on this.We didn’t do that with Hamer. You can have a wage structure that allows loyal and proven players to earn good wages while keeping risk low on newer players. I don’t want us buying big names for loads of cash, but someone in their fourth year at the club who has had impact is totally different.
