Happy birthday hutch. Yes for me the best. I was in mid teens when he joined the us. Inspired me, excited me and always gave 100% for the club. I know o was thrilled he played for us but I think he would be an even bigger name today if he had played for Liverpool or Leeds. Would have shone even in the very best of teams.
A true Coventry City legend

Hats off to Gordon Milne as well for signing him from Blackpool,as looking back you have to say one of the best ever signings.I watched him play for us open mouthed sometimes as he mesmerized defenders with his twists and turns. You're right as even though he went to Man City his talent deserved a top club at that time.

Yes Gordon Milne deserves credit. I used to love watching him taunting defenders with his close control. Also when he was clipped the way he locked his legs and the height he got before hitting the deck.

Yes he must have been a nightmare to mark as he was gangly but that hid unbelievable ball skills.Remember that goal he got against Arsenal ? Skinned defenders left right and centre before slotting home. Get in there !

That goal at Highbury is mentioned in Fever Pitch the Nick Hornby book. Hornby was there when Tommy scored that wonder goal, and he wrote that the Arsenal fans were fuming at the sight of the Coventry supporters going wild in the Clock End.The North Bank were singing "you're going to get your fucking heads kicked in." Don't know if they did get a kicking but I remember a few Arsenal fans get a pasting in the West End,so could have been revenge ? Great goal though !

My favourite all time player. He was a great player who if he had played for a more "fashionable" team would have been acknowledged as such by people outside of Coventry. Due to the fact that there was no freedom of contract he stayed with us for 8 seasons but really was allowed to go too soon as he proved at Man City.

i was at that game and in the clock end the fans cheering and jumping up and down were not Cov they were a large group of London based Glasgow Rangers fans there to support our own Colin Stein believe it or not, a god to them, some Arsenal did come round for a bit of a ruck but beat a retreat when the Rangers lot turned on them, I felt quiet safe to be honest.
