Oh God mate I used to park there sometimes but can't remember the name. Did the club not buy it at one time?

My old man also thinks Mercers Arms. Ive also googled it (search results are very limited which surprised me; google usually knows everything.....) and theres a post on here from 2011 which also mentions 'Mercers Arms' so im going to go with that.

Ahhhh it was great being about 13-14 and getting served in there. It was nearly as easy as Strikers!

It was the Mercer's for years until the club bought it and renamed it Sky Blue Tavern. I think it was then only opened on match days.

The Mercers Arms and then was renamed the Sky Blue Tavern. In the mid 80s the Mercers had a nite club where bob Brolly's band Calvery would make regular appearances, it was as rough as hell.

I started drinking in the Mercers Arms when I was 14. Had my 1st legal drink in there on my 18th birthday.....and they questioned my age :D An indian bloke had the place then.

Rough? Most people in there had wooden instuments ready to be used......otherwise known as walking sticks

Are we talking The Topspot rough as Hell ???

No that was by the parsons nose and yes rough with rough looking women and I use the term women loosely, as they were loose

The mercers next to HR Remember going upstairs with some mates who were bouncers from the city clubs watching them wack the crap out of a punch bag for trainning. They were some powerful guys who would be best avoided

Yeah me and a mate pulled two beauties in their one night, drunk as a skunk ,decided we'd go for an outdoor swim over at Kenilworth at 3 in the morning ,stopped off on the way while they popped into this house for some reason .There was a playground nearby so i decided to have spin on the roundabout ,needless to say I became very Dizzy and the contents of my stomach ended up on the floor. They returned to the car and instantly gave us a couple of pills each to swallow ,We jumped the wall and got into the pool ,whatever these pills were they had the effect of Viagra ,and being game girls after about half an hour we swapped .Getting back to their flat was interesting as we entered one decided to phone her Ex's new girlfriend promptly threatening to batter her head in with a baseball bat, needless to say the night petered out from there. Oh for nights like that.:claping hands:

Yes on the odd occasion when refused entry anywhere else due to being on a wobble the top spot was the place ...........never knew to be more scared of the bouncers or the 'women'

Not as rough as the woman who served the chips.

Oh yes big mamma

'one all in' was her saying, if you had faggott chips and peas

I had quite severe food poisoning from there once.

Her brother still cuts people's hair at Alan's the barbers. I avoid that like I did the chip shop after a delightful dose of E Coli.

Anyone remember the Forty Thieves? Now THAT was a rough place! And the 2000 Club just off the ring road in Spon End! (Think it became the Irish Centre? - or was that previous?) The entrance was in Watch Close.
Then there was the Pink Parrot, Mr Georges, The Locarno......... Ah, happy days! My mis-spent youth!......

the pub was the mercers arms, i saw the 'graham bond organisation' there,
it was briefly a prog rock venue (back room), in the late 60's, early 70's,
also a venue for soul nights,
m&b beer, hic !!

Yeah the Forty Thieves was done out like a cave set up inside IIRC,later to become busters and more of a Student type place
Was'nt the 2000 club/Irish Centre previously Studio 21??

I love these threads:claping hands:......how about The Golden Cross, The Three Tunns or Browns when it first opened in the Lower Prec. Closer to home for me as a kid, out at Tile Hill were The Black Prince (only if you were feeling suicidal) or the New Star when George Mason was the boss....anybody else out that way in the 60's?
