Wasn't popular at Coventry was he? Wasn't he chased by a bunch of fans outside of the Main Stand and he had to flee in his car? He and Sealey seemed to be the most hated of the free transfers who legged it after sexton was fired.

I can't recall him being unpopular on the field Grendel ,It was obvious he was a million pound player ,maybe he went hero to zero when he wanted out .I just wish we'd have kept that young team together under Milne ,they would have sustained us through 7-8 seasons ,and obviously Improved as they went along . We really could have been a top six side with that squad and time on their side .
Read at the time we got £190,000 for Hateley. Which was daylight robbery. The club were very patient with him. He didn't score a goal for about 15 games after making his debut. He ran the club down after he left and his dad Tony (ex City player of course) gave him a ticking off for it.
The rot set in when Gary Thompson was sold over the manager's head. Brought on mass transfer requests.
Wingy, you are right. If that team had been kept together things might have been much different. Of course it's over thirty years ago. But us City fans have long memories.
Peter Bodak should have been a star. What the heck went wrong with him?
