Why does Britain need warships?
They are all sitting ducks for anti-ship missiles. which cost a fraction of what a warship costs.
We should be aquiring some other technology.
Maybe unmanned remote-controlled drones.

Drones and robots will replace many actual troops. In the modern age they can be deployed from anywhere in the world really. Far more warfare will be computer based and knocking out defence /utilities systems.
Any ship that's available. Remember Dunkirk?
You aren't going to move many troops in a small Frigate.
Our small Navy could never pose a threat to Russia or China anyway.

You need all types. Small but fast. Large but slower. Stealth like subs.
Do you have a clue on how many times Russia goes into our territory each year? Should we just roll over and give up? Should we make half our citizens into our armed forces?

Who would want to attack Britain and why?
It's a tiny overcrowded island with virtually no natural resources and has little strategic importance.
Defending it would be best achieved by missiles or drones, not ships.

The surface fleet isn't solely about defence and forms a key part of our ability to be seen as a global (though decidedly not 'top tier') power still. You're probably right that we'd have far less need for one if our only concern was national defence but that isn't current foreign policy.
Regarding who'd want to attack us then at present id say nobody, however if we and our western european allies rapidly disarmed i would be amazed if countries like Russia and China didn't start trying to expand their influence via military means. It's a sad reflection of human nature i suppose but strong national defence forces are a product of our need for a deterrent to foreign aggression.
