Holstein Kiel, German football club based in Coventry's twin city of Kiel have just beaten Köln 1-0 away from home in the first leg of the Bundesliga promotion/relegation play off. They could be promoted to the top flight where they haven't been since 1963. The club were a dominant force in Gemany from 1900s to the early 1960s, but the commentators said they were playing in the 5th division just 10 years ago. The second leg will be played at their modest 15,000 capacity stadium on Saturday. Should they win the tie over the two legs they will be returning to the top flight after a 58 year absence. I'll certainly be following this and hoping they earn promotion - from now on they shall be my European team.
