How bad are we really? (1 Viewer)

Its a bit difficult for me to judge from afar but obviously the consensus from fans that go every week is that we are basically heading the way of the 3rd tier of English football for the first time in 50-odd years.

And I have to admit from the 3 games I have seen this season it hasn't filled me with a great deal of confidence that we are in for anything more than a mediocre season at best.

However, can we really be a million miles away from being a half decent team if you consider that if we hadn't committed suicide in injury time against Palace, Reading and Blackpool we'd have 7 more points and would be sat in 6th place?

I think we will be okay.
We've got a good manager, and a set of good pros.
What we lack in outstanding ability we make up for in good honest endeavour.
If we can keep the majority of the squad fit(big if) I'll think we will do enough to stay in this division, just!

We have scored just 7 goals in 9 games and Juke has 4 of them.

An average of less than one goal a game means categorically one thing. Relegation.

Its the lack of depth that will be our downfall. Our starting 11 is probably just good enough to stay up, but injuries will happen.

Agree with Otis that lack of goals is critical but also the the inexperience of the squad - we are now so reliant on kids that any injury to key players, which is going to happen during a season, is going to leave us in deep do do. We also have three senior pros who are not contributing as much as they should be: Bell and McSheffrey are consistently underwhelming in their contributions and seem happy to simply drift through games and Eastwood is just a disgrace to his profession if the reports about his fitness and attitude are correct. Our squad is too small, lacks any real quality and certainly lacks depth and experience. Its the inexperience that is costing us goals at crucial times in matches, we have no real leader on the pitch to rally the troops and organise a backs to the wall hold out in the last few minutes of games. These lapses are costing us vital points and its these points that could be the difference between survival and relegation.

Not one of the kids has really let us down ,apart from geal ipswich ,christie vreading pen ,,,,,,,,,,,,,we've had two on the bounce with poor officials ,gorks continually fouled Juke on sat, they last night took the sting out of us with about four minutes for stoppages and then get rewarded with stoppage time ,Sammy did'nt have to put that ball iut for a corner,he could have let it run out Murphy should have let him know,or he should have put it in row zfor a throw ,but miscued it ,we all know we're about 3 short, theres only one place to put the blame for that, they can make it with belief ,its up to us to give them that:D starting @oakwell PUSB

For their first goal as well Keogh headed it back to Murphy and he had time to take a touch, bring it back into his box and pick it up. Instead he panicked and hoofed it out. They too a quick throw and had a man over with Taylor-Fletcher.
I don't like bad mouthing players but I don't think Murphy is very good. He doesn't seem to have confidence in his ability. I was really impressed when Dunn played against Derby in the second half and thought he had easily done enough to keep his place.

As for the team on a whole, it lacks that cutting edge at present. Too many hopeful crosses with no intended target. We always look most dangerous when payers cut inside.

Having said that two good goals last night and pleased for Deegan, I think we are capable of staying up just need a little bit more luck.

Barnesley away on Saturday we nearly always beat them.

Brilliant. thanks for putting the kybosh on the three points!!! :D:facepalm::D

We need goals simple as that and with players like ROD were not going to get many.

He is so ineffective. We need Thorn to grow a pair and drop Bell. Were playing with 10 men when hes on the pitch.

Would be amazed if ROD scores more than 3 goals this season. He runs around a lot, has great energy and will chase all the lost causes, but doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a top striker at this level.

its blatantly obvious we need some pace and creativity in the side, midfield is the main problem, Clingan does a good job but Baker and Bell are far too incionsistent, Deegan looked last night that he will improve things slightly there but still need pace and creativity in the middle of the park., other than that its the kids who will try their best but as we all know they need nurturing and cant play all the time.

we only have 1 left back and he is struggling at the mo and could do with being taken out but we have no other left back.

its all ok tho cos according to onye we have a quality squad, he and sisu know this as they are always at games so know how well weve been playing so all is rosey, we have a quality squad. :thinking about:
